Title: Help needed - Drywall and tile work.
Post by superhawk2300 on Aug 21st, 2008 at 9:31pm
Hey gang,

anyone in the Milwaukee area have any drywall and / or tile work done that they were sas-i-fied with in terms of quality and price?

Putting my kitchen back together after the storms has left me exhausted and I dred finishing the drywall (ceiling too!) and installing the granite flooring, so we've decided to farm that stuff out. Since that type of work is so permanent and we do not have a ton of cash we are worried about finding someone who is reasonably priced who won't screw it up.

Anyone got any ideas?

The countertops will be done and delivered in 2 weeks so I was hoping to keep this moving along so we can quit doing out dishes in the kitchen sink and living like wild animals.....

Dude, I so wish I lived near you, I owned a drywall company in the 80's and love to do it for  friends. I would hook you up with a sculptured/textered ceiling for just beers.  ;)

yo,  I agree with Jonny man, I love doing that kind of work, I've layed ALOT of tile in the past. I'm tellin ya man, the work is NOT that tuff. with just a wee bit of creativity, you can make tile, and drywall, look AWESOME. I understand BIG TIME you not wanting to do it yourself,, but if you do, remember, ITS NOT THAT BAD!!!  Good luck, and I TOO wish I was closer to ya,    Tuck

By the way Hawk,, this is just a thought, but, you know how tile or granite floors get REAl cold, well, you can put a heat system in them relatively cheap. its a system of wires, like in a 3 foot by 15 foot mat, with wires leading to a wall mounted thermostat. you can even cut the mat to lay the wires in any direction you choose, like in front of the sink, around the table , the pathway you use most , whatever. its simple to do too, you just lay the "mat" in the thinset (morter mix) just prior to laying the tile.  just an idea.   Tuck

If my 23 year old son can do this in his kitchen and bathroom in less than a day you can to.  It was his first time and he did a perfect job.  But I appreciate being tired and not wanting to do it all yourself.  Once you get a little up there in age it isnt as easy to do those do it yourself jobs anymore.  We are in our mid 40's and would have hired someone to do it as well had it been our home.  I hope you can find someone realiable and reputable quickly.

You guys are most rightous! I also wish you lived closer!

Thanks for the tip on the heating tuck! I will certianly opt for that!

I've done both before myself and to be honst I didn't like either all that much. I am too much of a perfectionist and I get frustrated when there are variations, etc.

In the time/money balancing act these are the two things I am the worst at an will take the most time, so it is best I let someone who enjoys and is good at it do them.

How far IS Gillespie?
