I hope he recovers quickly and this doesn't make him too gun-shy.

I remember my first football injury as a freshman... I was tackled by a freight train of a mutant, my helmet popped off (crappy equipment those days) and I ended up spitting out many small pieces of my teeth.  I had a concussion, and I instantly looked like I had shark teeth.

After that, I stepped it up about 10 notches because I wanted to ring somebody's bell even harder than mine had been rung.  Fun stuff.  Never missed a game, either.

I watched my two older boys play HS basketball and football a Daughter play HS basketball and Casey's martial arts/boxing exploits.  It just never gets old.

I've seen concussions, broken limbs, dislocations, torn ligaments, stiches and endless floor burns and bruises between them.

It's just plain weird how I can watch my kids get beat up and all I can do is puff out my chest and say, "yea, that's my kid".  Mean time all the Mom's are clutching their chests and biting the backs of their hands.  Must be a Mars vs. Venus thing.

Don't get me wrong, I hate seeing my kids in pain.  But there is just something about seeing them deal with that pain with dignity and fight to get back in the game that makes you proud.

Enjoy it while you can.  Damn years go by in a blink.
