No, it wasn't ours.  We live on the opposite end of town.  It was right close to my sister-in-law's house, though.

The fire started on a parcel of BLM land.  So far, it's of unknown origin, but it coincided with a fast-moving cold front that came through, with winds in the forties and fifties--so I'm guessing that it was either lightning-caused, or the result of a downed power line.

My sister-in-law's neighbor saw the thing start, I hear.  She said it went from nothing to a real nightmare in a second or two.  When the desert's as dry as it is this time of year, a fire during a windstorm can flash into a monster before you know it.

Nine or ten homes burned down, and one fatality.

Saw that on the news, damn, fire bad. Wind, dry, gets really scary really fast. Keep your shoes nearby and the cars loaded, them fires move fast!

We've recently been introduced to Fire 1.0, and I must say that in general, it's very nice.  Cooked food--who knew?  There are rumors that we may soon get Wheel 2.1.  Chances are, Wheel 2.1 will revolutionize our vacation options, which have been limited by how fast the oxen can travel.

No shit, though...the first time my brother came to visit me here, he was going to fly into Salt Lake City and take the bus from there, because he didn't think we had airports.

Best,

George
