Wow.
Holy schniekies, wow. I don't know much about her, but I do know she is a common sense person. When she sees something she doesnt like, she has no problem in letting her voice be heard and has no problem in rolling up her sleeves and getting in the trenches. Wow, Wow. I think this changes the dynamic completely. Holy oleo |

WOWZA!!!
Boy does THIS make for an interesting run! I know nothing about her, but just her age and sex make it VERY interesting! There are enough narrow minded idiots out there that will just look at the choices: An over 70 year old white guy, with a female VP - OR - A black man ... WOW!!! This IS a historic race, even though, as usual, I will be picking the lesser of the two evils ... And at this point, I have not decided who is the lesser ... I really don't care for either one of them! Chuck |

Just out of curiosity, when was the last time you were excited to vote for a Presidential candidate? It seems that it is ALWAYS a matter of choosing the lesser of two evils.

I'm with you Chuck. I don't like the choices in front of me. This is a stunning selection. It makes the McCain ticket more attractive to x-Clinton supporters and gives McCain a youth component he was clearly missing before. On the other hand he opened himself up to the same problems Obama faces now with his lack of experience. She's four years younger than Obama and one heart attack away from the Oval Office. -Dennis- |

I hear that from a lot of people, but yet people still choose from the "two" major parties. I don't get it. If you really don't like either choice then choose something else. Don't swallow the "wasting your vote" line. We're going to have to go through some proverbial pain before it gets better. |
Title: Re: Well, well, well... Post by fubar on Aug 29th, 2008 at 1:34pm
Solid choice. She is a conservative, has a son in the army, fights wasteful spending and corruption. I am totally happy with this one. She is a woman who I would like to see in the office someday. She is a woman that this country can be proud of. If this country is ready for a woman (they are) she is it. McCain changed everything with this selection. She may be four years younger than Obama, but she has actual accomplishments to list, unlike The One.
I must say, I am finally excited about this election. |

I hear that, man. Everything is changed now. She may be younger, but she has more experience in politics. She started in city politics in 92. This is one hell of a choice by McCain!!!! |

I certainly was surprised when I saw the news about McCain's choice for his running mate. I'm following the election process with interest anyway, but this makes it even more interesting. Historic election coming up, that's for sure.

I like what she told Kudlow with CNBC when she first got on the short list. She said,
Quote:
I thought that was pretty refreshing. She sure hit all the right buttons with her speech a few minutes ago. *edited to add....Unless a bunch of skeletons come popping out of her closet, I think that we have just seen a turning point and McCain will indeed be our President. I think we could do much worse. |
Title: Re: Well, well, well... Post by icedragon on Aug 29th, 2008 at 4:20pm
She has only been Governor for a short while and does not have much experience to run the country if she needs to fill the shoes of 72 y/o McCain. She is also under invesigation for trying to get her ex-brother in-law unfairly fired from the State Patrol using the power of her office. Of course this changes the dynamic of the election.

This election is getting interestinger and interestinger!
In my 62 years of life (only able to vote since age 21) I can't think of any Presidential election that has been so different, so exciting. I don't know how I'm going to vote - I have until election day to make up my mind, but today's VP announcement sure makes it a challenge for me. - And, to all you chauvenist pigs out there, it's not because she's a woman. I voted Obama in the primary - I detest Hillary. To me, THAT was a vote for the lesser of two evils. Sandy |

It was a good move. After the huge press from Obama's speech....that will be rerun for the next 400 years....McCain took the wind out of his sails for a time. You have to give her credit for nixing Ted Steven's bridge to nowhere too. It doesn't hurt that she's big on the NRA....but then I can't imagine many from the NRA voting Democratic. The NRA has become as much a conservative political organization as well as guarders of the 2nd Ammendment.

To answer the original question, yes I think it changes the dynamic of th election significantly.
Obama used to be my State Senator before going on to become my US Senator. I had no use for his communist leanings then, (I used the "c" word advisedly), and I have no use for them now. I had planned to vote very reluctantly for McCain, but with Sarah Palin on the ticket I can vote enthusiastically, knowing that if something should happen to him we will have someone much more fiscally conservative to back him up. I also believe she will have a great deal of influence on our oil policy, and she is no friend of the oil companies. Jerry |

If all the people who are talking "it is always the lesser of two evils" would actually find someone to vote for they like (yes it would take going to an independant to do it) somethings might change.
Until the US gov race isn't a rigged, 2 horse race, nothing is gonna change. As much as Dem and Reps fight, the truth is they both know either side cannot exist without the other, to the point where it colors what happens to the point of the affect being that they are in league with each other. If EVREYONE who complained it is the lesser of two evils each year would vote indy, something would happen. But most do not, they pick the lesser of two evils and then most complain that somehow they are stuck with "evil". Of course the answer is some weighted voting, where every voter is required to pick a certain % of candidates. Then people would hve some choices and there would need to be an interest in some 3rd parties. Then maybe we would get a president that more people actually wanted as president than who didn't want them as president, for the first time in 30 some years! But since the 2 main parties the rule our lives would be at risk, they would never make the changes - too bad for us. Revoloution anyone? |

I speak English only as a second language, and I'm doing my best to learn American, so will somebody please explain to me which is the lesser of two weevils.
And does that make them gooder or badder. |
Title: Re: Well, well, well... Post by Charlie on Aug 30th, 2008 at 3:20pm
It's true that Palin's selection has changed the dynamics of the election but not quite to the extent you right wing apologists would like. It takes a good part of the experience question off table. Biden now looks better. Still, with few exceptions, people vote for President rather than Veep.

Title: Re: Well, well, well... Post by Charlie on Aug 30th, 2008 at 8:46pm
Palin was chosen for her abortion postion. It's fine to have a positon but sad reason to choose a candidate. Democrats are guilty of it too. Palin is all right. McCain isn't stupid. She has a more open position on several other social issues. Hopefully the wackos on the far right will treat her with a little respect.
This antique approach has made serious national politics secondary. It works though. Republicans seem to be able to convince the evangelicals and the like that they are on their side. They do a good job electing some GOP types and are quickly forgotten until the next election. Title: Re: Well, well, well... Post by Charlie on Aug 31st, 2008 at 3:45pm
Wishful thinking on the social issues kids. Palin insures the pro-life thing for McCain as a lot of GOP women worry that he's not a true believer on some of these things. Choosing a woman that is for teaching creationism in schools brought it home for them.
There is no way that Hillary voters will vote for a man that voted against equal pay for equal work for women. "No way, no how, not McCain." PUMA died on the convention floor. Not my words...but it's probably true that if McCain chose a man with her credentials, he would be laughed off the ticket. It was a bit of a cynical move and possibly dangerous. McCain actually weakened his change position with her choice. Now that he's a true believing Republican trying to insure his right wing, he lost his maverick credentials. Everybody likes her but she has to be careful that she doesn't fall into the Eagleton and Quayle trap. I wish this kind of thing were not true but it is. Charlie |
