Paul beat me to the punch in acknowledging my cluster angel/little brother/bloody good friend. It meant an awful lot to Paul to be able to thank Dape himself though and I was glad to let him.

Dape went out of his way to help me today, at great inconvenience to him and his family but without a second thought.

He put me first when I really, really needed him and he set my mind at rest and continues to do so.

I just wanted everyone else here to know how much he helped me, how he dropped EVERYTHING to help me.

It makes us all feel good when we have heart-warming stories from and about people we all know.

Only a few of you have met Dape so far, Paul, Carrie and Matt have all met him at my house and I am telling you now, the rest of you WILL be meeting him, Julie and my niece and nephew one day - at my house here (Well, mine and Pauls!)

Dape you and Julie are proof that the best family I'll ever have are the ones I've picked for myself

The simple fact is my back was against the wall and Dape didn't just move to help me, he jumped.

He put me and mine first and I can't ever thank him enough for that and I wanted the rest of you to know how bloody wonderful I think he is!

r.e. Cathy Fluffyknickers- I tried to find out a while ago as I was very worried as I knew she had been quite ill, but her email addy and 'phone number I have aren't right any more. She wasn't with Wes by then.

Helen, I was thinking of you, the other day when you were feeling lower than an old penny in the gutter.....when you're down, dear, just go paint another table... or pick your fave piece of furniture..I think that is a wonderful way to scare away the blues. last night,  I painted my sleeping husband purple. I'm still smiling, funny thing, rhough, he didn't think it was funny :-/.I know, tonight, I'll paint him green....I do hope this time he closes his mouth..........

I'm still here (NY) and will be until 6:05pm on Saturday when I take off from JFK...

Dape isn't older than me but he IS taller hence me being the "little" sister!

Dape IS in England BTW, he helped me out there.

As to living where, well we're still working out the logistics of how and when but the plan is for me to live here rather than Paul move to the UK. It's a big decision, life change - everything!

I don't know the way to San Jose BUT - I can read a map and I CAN ask directions! No wuckin' furries on that score!

The Woodchuck question will be answered when you tell me how long it will take one man to sandpaper an elephant down to a greyhound if it takes two men three day's to walk a fortnight.

I will be heading over to the West Coast one day - I've told Paul my plan to (eventually) drive through every single state and he's happy enough with that idea (it beats some of the... shall we say - more "creative" plans I've come up with!!)

Cathi - funnily enough the last time I was painting furniture I managed to "answer" the paint brush when the phone rang and got a right old lug full of gloss (oil based) paint! Bad and all as that was, I then compounded the faux pas (wasn't that a polite way of saying the cock up?!) by answering the phone and putting it to the same ear! Covered the sodding thing in paint... and just 'cos I can't seem to stop mucking up I then tried to clean the phone with turps to get the paint off.. and melted all the bloody buttons  ::)

As Mast said at the time, you couldn't make this shit up!

I know this post is old, just have not really had a chance to be on here.. BUT..
I have to let you know what you did meant the world to Helen, and as her friend, I'd like to thank you for being there without hesitation.  As a single mom know what its like to be screwed over by people that people you think love you and your kids are involved.  The anxiety and stress is ENORMOUS.
