Title: Bad experience over weekend....
Post by BarbaraD on Sep 8th, 2008 at 1:37pm
Ya'll know I'm not predigice and I'm pretty easy going, but I lost it Saturday night at a gas station to the Arab owner and am still mad....

I was leaving a "family" gathering when I noticed my truck was sputtering on "E" and this was the ONLY place open on my way home so I pulled in (don't usually get gas here), got out put my credit card in, waited for authorization and all that, pumped the damn gas and started on my merry way....

The owner came out screaming at me. I pulled back in to see what his problem was. He began (in a screaming voice) accusing me of being a gas thief!.... I explained that I had put my credit card in his damn pump and all that.... He called me a liar and some other stuff I didn't understand. Well... I lost it....

All my charm schooling went out the window and had there not been a witness standing there he would probably have gone to meet Ali or whoever right then and there and if my credit card shows up "2" charges he may still do so.... But I told him he'd best think about moving out of Cass County cause when I got thru with him he wouldn't like it here too much (or something to that effect) and if I ever caught anyone I knew doing business with him I'd personally kick their butt. The poor guy that was standing there waiting to pay for his gas assured me he wouldn't come there anymore.

Now if my credit card didn't work right at the pump the guy could have handled it nice and come out and told me it wasn't working correctly, but to yell at me and accuse me like that.... I just don't take that shit off nobody.

I'm still mad about it (bet you couldn't tell could ya?).

Hugs BD

Did the pump give you a receipt you could use as proof of purchase?

I NEVER leave the pump without a receipt for that very reason.

Me three!  Always take the receipt.  If the pump is out of receipt paper, I walk myself in to the store and demand they give a paper receipt there.

My son in law learned to take receipts the hard way.  He pulled in to a gas station towing his 30' boat and filled the tank in the BOAT using his credit card at the pump.  Did not take the receipt.

About 15 minutes after he drove out, a cop pulled him over and arrested him for gas theft!  He didn't have a receipt to prove that he paid.  Obviously, the situation was resolved once his credit card company proved to the gas station that he had indeed paid, but still!

Ray - I'm missing your point. Of what was this man ignorant? Rude, yes. Jumped to a conclusion, certainly. Perhaps even falsely accusatorial. But I don't see how he was ignorant.

Good for you Barb.  Let him have it!!!!  I'd push my car five miles further rather than give him any business.  Now, I am a vindictive person so I would be planing my next move by now.  But thats just me

It's fairly straight forward.  The gas station attendant was ignorant of the facts AND jumped to the incorrect conclusion AND was rude.

The facts included Barb paid with a credit card.  Mystery solved?   ::)

I always print a receipt after paying at the pump just for that reason.

The attendant surely had a camera feed and is probably clueless on how to use it or the pump monitor for that fact!

If that had happened to my wife, I surely would have had his ass on a serving platter (or shinning hub caps) for being disrespectful without checking the facts first.

Roland. :o

Nope. Was he ignorant of the facts? I don't think we know all the facts here. Maybe he was truly convinced that Barb hadn't paid. Maybe there was an equipment malfunction.

I just think you picked the wrong word. Rudeness crosses all racial boundaries. Prejudgement crosses all racial boundaries. But this isn't a clear cut example of ignorance (which led you to label him as an idiot).

We don't have all the facts. We have Barb's side of the story.

Semantics! Barb had a problem, she shared it here, Ray made a statement and...ZOOM!  Off to the races! [smiley=bash.gif]

sheesh!
Cathi

edited to add: So, Barb, I'm so sorry this guy(assumption) got in your face(assumption), called you a thief(written)......THEN, when you arrived here to vent(itsays so, up there), someone tried to make some sense of it all and give you some support(where's the perp when ya need him?)and was called up on a flipping Sematics call! Thinking I'm gonna dust off my English prof's robes and be the politically English correctness police.........

Everybody be NICE!

Sorry if my wish for people to use the right words and say what they mean threw you off your game. Semantics has nothing to do with it.

And you may not believe it, but I don't doubt Barb in the least. But we never will get to hear his side of the story. Therefore we can't evaluate intent.

Bill:

Perhaps I was quick to rush to judgement that Barb was right, and gas station dude was wrong.  I'll side with family every time.  I still love ya Bill.

And pardon the bejeepers out of me for trying to insist on clear use of language. I sensed that several were starting to jump in the middle of this station owner's shit without knowing all the facts. "Family" has a tendency to do that, and in my experience, "family" can have a tendency to stick up for each other rather blindly. Not a positive quality in my estimation.

Sorry about that situation, Barb...

Back in here, most stations expect customers go inside the gas station to pay for their gas. That means that the customer must recall the number of the gas pump they used. That doesn't mean that the bills would be correct, though; I recall that last summer the cash register system accidentally combined mom's gas bill with the chap before her, which took quite a while to sort out! Luckily both of them were in relaxed mood and not in any hurry...

Naturally, gas thefts do happen and there are more and more credit card stations available.

The reason I don't do business with this place is... about a year ago I stopped in one night to get some milk. I just grabbed a gallon, but when I put it on the counter it felt "warm". I felt a little more and it felt really warm. I commented on that and this "JERK" said his cooler was being worked on. BEFORE I paid, I opened the milk and checked it - sure nuff it was spoiled.

I told him it was spoiled and that I didn't think I wanted it. He got mad about that. Needless to say, I did NOT buy the spoiled milk and hadn't been back there since. Don't know if he ever got his cooler fixed or not.

But you know what they say - a happy customer tell maybe a couple of people - an unhappy one tells MANY!! And this sweet little old gray-haired lady knows MANY MANY!!!
