Seven years ago today an act of religous stupitity took 3,000+ lives.

no! Never forgotten, Paul......though I knew noone who lost their life 9/11, I know that act of violence has changed the way we live our lives, nationwide, perhaps worldwide.

Svenn may have a point though. While not forgiving, it's time that we be ourselves rather than The United States Of Fighting Terrorism. Keep after them but tone down the fear rhetoric. Take care of our infrastructure as well. It's been neglected since 9-11. Remember but refocus. What we are doing now reminds me of the effectiveness of the Drug Enforement Administration.

No need to forget but look elsewhere too.

Who could forget where they were?

Who could forget when you first heard that 1st plane hit, and talking amongst yourselves:  what kind of idiot doesn't see a building? And we minimized because we didn't yet know the scope of the situation and because we as a nation became desensitized to tragedy?

Who could forget when that 2nd plane hit and thinking, "wtf??? TWO???"... and still not realizing what was truly going on.

Who could forget plane 3 and the horror that began to sink in, that we don't know WHAT is going on and someone please explain?

Then plane 4 and co-workers  whose famlies and friends are in towers or Pentagon, or on planes and crying in fear because we had no answers?

Who can forget just wanting to go home and get our children or our loved ones, and hide them away?

Who can forget watching in horror as those towers fell?

Or the aftermath of hell?

Forget?   no.

Paul, I am truly sorry for your loss. Your friends, and so many others,  will ALWAYS be remembered. Not because they died this day, but because they LIVED BEFORE this day.

I remember very clearly. I was travelling to Toronto on a 10.30am train from Ottawa to visit my best friend and my sister called me from the UK and told me to switch on the tv. She really didn't want me to go. I picked up a Toronto Sun when I got there and still have it. I went up the CN Tower on 13/09 and there was hardly anyone up there.

A friend of mine sent a chain email with this picture on it. The email was titled Something You Won't See Again.

I've said this before but my take on this is that I'm still waiting for some large group of American Muslims to get together and explain why they are appalled at what was done. So far, I've not seen it.

On the other hand; I really do think we have to get around this a bit more. It's become too much the center of every thing we do. Go after them but not to the exclusion of everything else.

For the first time, we have experienced what it is to be Europeans: Lots of crap around us and we have to come to some accomodation with such things. It's never going to be as safe as it was. That's new and it's hard for us to deal with.

I remember very clearly large groups of Morrocan and Somali youth going on the streets to party that evening here in the Netherlands, we, the general public were appaled beyond imagination. Is it youthful rebellion, as the socialists tried to apologize it? I think not.

Where was the general outcry by them after the murder of Theo van Gogh?
No, instead we get muzzled when we complain when another poor gay man is beaten half to death. They are allowed to hate the Western lifestyle with a passion, but when you complain about that, you are branded a racist! I'm no friggin' racist, I have Indonesian, Surinamese and Antillian friends. I just can't stand the one way street of muslems being free to do whatever they please, without acknowledging the criticism about it.

I wanna say however, that I live in a neighbourhood with loads of muslems, and that a lot of them are very nice people who do not agree with extremist elements. We need to praise them as well, and recognize that a bunch of them are scared to speak out. They are prisoners, just like the rest of us.

But to be serious: which countries are run over right now? France at first, we the Dutch are second. Why? Coz we've always been too tolerant. The Netherlands always wanted to be the guiodeland on liberal policies, you name it, we were the first. Well, those policies have caught up with us. I am no authority on politics, but I see what happens to our neighbourhoods ( not just mine, all over the country) and I see what it does to the people. The Dutch are no racists, far from it, we have always welcomed our immigrants with love. But the  muslems are causing a lot of sh*t, no way around it.

Tell me, what to do. It is a problem all over Europe, not just France and here, even in small countries like Denmark. And yes, they are outgrowing us. Statistics: The Netherlands 16,5 million people of which 944, 000 muslem.... look it up. Or rather see Geert Wilders' ''Fitna'' movie.
BTW. I've seen international media coverage on Geert Wilders' stating he is a white nationalist..... he damn well is not. He's a conservative politician scared of islamisation of Europe. In fact, his mother is an Indonesian, so he can NOT be a racist. But you know what, that's how the media manipulies you.
The Dutch are NOT racist, it is just a name to cower us into silence.

`Jonny, thanx for the encouragements. But before I ever leave my native grounds, I will be ready to fight for it. Me and friends have discussed the thought of civil war. And we are willing to fight, not because we want it, but because there is a possibility it is inevitable. Maybe that is the road the Europeans are determined to go, the path of fighting armed and dangerous, just to preserve what our ancestors have fought for.

Damn, I do not want to depress anyone. But at times it seems inevitable. Look at the Cornulla Beach riots in Australia: they were fights among muslems and non muslems, not what the media told us: white nationalists against darkskinned. In fact, a lot of darkskinned fought with the white. It never was a racist thing. Neither is it here.

I'm not saying we should stop fighting terrorism. What I'm saying....and I'm not alone, is that it consumes our politics and probably more that Vietnam. During that war, tons of social programs and the Civil Rights Act became law. A little thing we call the cold war was front and center too. We landed on the moon. We did lots of things, not just one all-consuming war of choice that is being used to stifle debate on very serious issues.

Today, we have energy, health care, very serious economic problems ....However, with Sarah Palin's nomination for Vice President, abortion and that tedious "family values" crap gets all the press. It's  psychotic.

Fight the terrorists where they are and never let up but we are big enough to work on our other serious problems as well. If we don't, we are in for a very long period of decline.
