Out-f'n-standing, my man. Other than keeping your house, what else does it mean? Some health care coverage? Disability status?
I am truly stoked for you, bro. |

Thanks Brew. What it means is that I can pay the two years back taxes and do some long over do painting and other similar stuff.
It's called total disability but I still don't know the particulars yet. It means that if retros to 2006, the taxes will be easy. I've been a wreck about it for two years. I wouldn't mind selling sometime down the road but this means I can do it on my own schedule when it comes. I have the best "health care" in the world for now. State is wonderful. I chewed out two of my doctors for abusing it. I didn't say it that way but I think they know what I meant. I told them that just because I had it, doesn't mean that they have to use it for redundant testing and nonsense vists. For a time I had to get my drugs from Canada that had to get them sent here from India. It took months and is insane. What I have now costs nothing but it took a long time to get that. I hope I can keep some form of it. I don't say it much but I am grateful that I live in this country. I may not deserve it, but at least I would have had a shot, no matter the outcome. Charlie |

Barb, You beat me to it ;D. Congratulations Charlie. I know from experience (I've helped numerous people with SS claims) just how damned difficult it is to get on disability (ppd or total). What chaps my ass in a lot of these cases is that *some* people with hangnails can get disability without batting an eye, yet others, like Charlie, have to fight tooth and nail to get what they should have gotten without so much as as appeal! |

I've thought about this too. Yesterday, before I got the notice, I sent out my last good item on ebay. It would have been impossible to keep the lights on for more than a few weeks. My neighbor, the Reverend, who has been great to me, invited me out for coffee to ask me how it was going. I got a big package of testimonies from several medical and State professionals as well. It turn out that it wasn't needed but again, what a coincidence!
You're not old Redd. I'm a first year boomer and we never admit that anyone gets old. Charlie |

Thanks Phil. I'm not sure I can help much but maybe you're having the same experience as I. Bear in mind that my appeal was for epilepsy.
I live near Buffalo and sometime after I started this with Legal Aid, I read several articles in The News. Buffalo is one of the districts for SS and the like and it turns out that only four judges are in the area and the average wait is 669 days after denial. I had no idea what I was in for. Mostly I spent time waiting and waiting. When I finally had my hearing in July...a video hearing...it was interesting. I think it pays to check in every now and then but here, it's a matter of the order in which your case is handled One good thing is that the chances of overturning a denial is 60%. I'm not sure if that was comforting or not. Legal aid collected a lot of testimony letters from friends and relatives and reviewed the ones to send to the judge. I was surprised that they carry a little weight. That was all I could do until the decision. My only suggestion is to make sure you get people who have known you for some time to explain how this affects everything you do....especially people who have seen an attack. I wish I had more to say and of course this is my experience in the Buffalo area only. Good luck and let us know how things are going......I know how you feel. It was a close run thing. Charlie |
