Title: Close to home....(pics)

Blake & I took our bikes to a state park.  It's only 30 miles from home and we had never even seen it before.  What a great, relaxing day.  It's amazing what neat and beautiful place are right in your back yard.

We stayed to watch the sunset....I'm so glad we did.  It was beautiful.

There are a lot of birds there....was wishing I had my big zoom lens.  The white ones are Egrets (I think).  The one flying over is an Osprey (I think) because it was heading for the nesting pole.

I'm still loving the beautiful sunset we saw.

Oh....we rode our bike almost 8 miles.  Not bad for a couple old rookies... :)

Much Love,
Jackie

Is that Chain-O-Lakes State Park or Potato Creek State Park?

If it's Wharton Lake at Potato Creek, it's about 5 miles from where I grew up.  I know it well--spent a lot of time there when I was a kid.  I remember when the park was established.

My family donated a collection of Native American projectile points and stone axes to the Visitor's Center that my grandfather gathered on his farm (during the 1930's).  His farm was just north of the Park.

Wonderful photos.

Best,

George

Those pictures are beautiful Jackie.  Thanks for so much sharing them.  It makes me think that I should take more time to appreciate the beauty of nature.  Some day I want to live on a lake.  There's nothing like a sunset or sunrise over the water.

Hugs and Kisses,

Jen

Thanks folks....appreciate the comments on my photos.

Superhawk:  You may be right...wasn't sure if it was a Heron or maybe a Sand Crane.

George:  It's Potato Creek.  We didn't get inside the Visitor Center...it was closed.  I really would like to see the collection your family donated.  Have you seen it?  Tell ya what....come back and we'll all go together.... :)  We spoke with an old gentlemen on the fishing pier.  He gave us a lot of the history of the park....from when it was damned up, who the farmer was, etc.  He'd lived right there all his life.  I'm wondering if he knew your family.

Delta......most happy to share photos with you....I get to enjoy one of yours every day!!!!!   :)

Much Love,
Jackie

Most of my best pictures are very similar to this one, I just love what the sun can do to the sky.

Thank you for posting it.

Last time I checked, Jacks, the arrowhead collection wasn't on display.  'Course, that was 3 or 4 years ago.  It might be.  I'm pretty sure if it isn't on display, if you asked to see it, they might show it to you.  And yes--I've seen the collection.  As kids, we used to take the projectile points out and look at them every once in awhile.  There are a couple of hundred arrow and spear points, and a pair of stone axes.

I wouldn't be surprised if the old gent knew my family.  That area around North Liberty is (or was) pretty small, and everyone knew everyone else's family.  My folks were there for a long time.  None of us lives near there anymore.

Yep, if I head up that way to visit, I'll get in touch.  Haven't been there for a few years, but my youngest brother still lives over by Mishawaka, so I've got an excuse.

Man, that was cool--seeing photos of my old stomping grounds.   :)

Best wishes,

George
