Post by Lenny on Sep 29th, 2008 at 8:39pm
My sister in law has leukemia (sp) amd received a bone marrow transplant (my wife was the donor) she finally came home this past thursday after a few months in the hospital (was so happy to be back home).... This morning she was rushed back to the hospital (severe stomach pain) they say that it is normal for patiants in the first year to go back into the hospital 1-2 time's ( i dont know if this is a normal problem or something serious) and my wife is flipping out untill we get the phone call from her brother in law with hopefully good news......Whatever you guys can give her would be greatley appreciated......BTW her name is Vickie.....please excuse my spelling (cant find the spell check).....Thank you......Lenny

I thank you guys from the bottom of my heart.....You guys are good, approx. 5 minutes ago the ohone rang and it was great news (the pain is normal)something to the effect that her system is fighting off the bone marrow or the bone marrow is fighting off something(it was hard for me to hear him as they are still in the er with all the noise in the background.....Again i thank you all very much.....Lenny

P.S.I dont get on the puter that often (for some reason it seems to trigger the beast) and he has been whipping me pretty damm good the past several months.... My verap. and lithium magic stopped helping :'(,we even added some cafergot a few times a day along with the ver. and lith.....PFDAN to all

Hey Lenny,

Max (((vibes))) heading to your sister in law and all the family.  I know how scary leukemia can be for all involved.  My daughter was diagnosed with ALL at age 13...  She beat it, but it was a super human struggle with megadoses of methotrexate, a very crude form of chemotherapy by today's standards...  It was so corrosive they needed to fit her a Hickman catheter to prevent vascular collapse.  That was in 1986 when the prognosis for ALL wasn't that good...  She's now 35, married and doing great.  She's also spent a day a week at the hemonc wing at Childrens Hospital in Seattle for the last 20 years and every summer at Camp Good Time working with kids suffering from similar forms of leukemia.

My sister in law was diagnosed with CML 8 years ago and that got real scary until they started her on GLEEVECŪ prior to FDA approval.  It was still in clinical trails as a new class of cancer drug that attacks cancer proteins at the molecular level, but it turned out to be a magic silver bullet with dramatic results in treating this form of leukemia.  She's also doing great and was no longer on any form of chemotherapy two years later.

Take Care,

V/R, Batch

Lenny,

Glad to hear the good news, but will still pray for the transplant to hold, and for the leuk. to be beaten.

My thoughts and prayers are with your whole family. Never stop hoping. My Aunt had lymphoma, and was stage 4, it had spread to most of her body and they basically told us to prepare for the worst... Years later she's alive and doing great! Just make sure they all keep their thoughts on the fact she will get well! :) No room for doubt here! :)
