Unfortunately,
The next president of the United States will be whoever the Press wants to be President. The bottom 20% of the population that they keep refering to is, in this day and age a HUGE number of votes, and which ever candidate can butter them up the most will be the winner. Jimmers |

But Jimmers, it's this kind of thinking that keeps us in this mess, ya know? Believe me, I've been telling people every chance I get that there are MORE options out there than what you see on TV or read in the paper!! I just wish others did the research themselves instead of letting the media do it for them. Personal responsibility, the 2 words Charlie doesn't like hearing, LOL. ;) |

I still say the PROBLEM remains with the PEOPLE of the US. We elect a president and a Congress and then let them do as they please. We don't watch them and TELL them what we WANT. We just sit back complacently and let them do what's "best for us" and that is just WRONG. They tend to FORGET they work for US and that they're there to do what their BOSS wants.
Voting is just the first step == backing up your vote is an ongoing process. Blink and you lose. Hugs BD |

Exactly the point I was trying to make Mel!
Keep them poor, keep them struggling and they won't have time to REALLY look at the issues at hand, sprinkle a couple of feel good tidbits to them through TV commercials and the vote is as good as won. So far, I have not heard either of the candidates come up with any plan, for ANY issue in a concrete form. Just the usual "My administration will do this, or do that." Just more of the blah blah blah lip service. Jimmers |

One option, available to all eligible voters: vote for somebody else.
It seems every election sees an increase in the amount of hot air that blows. It's a wonder we even use natural gas and heating oil. |

A couple of things on third parties: Here in NY, it's a blue state and it makes no real difference....now...but if enough people decide that it's safe to vote that way; things might get close. I'm asked to vote third party by evangelists mostly. It's not hard to understand. They are a patient bunch and the electoral clout of NY some day would be stunning if they can use significant third party voting to skew the outcome.
Another thing is that too often gay rights activists for instance, go overboard for the Ralph Naders of the world. This is fine but by suggesting voting this way, they wind up with a George Bush or other right winger that hates everything about them. Of course, I think it's insane for them to harp on gay issues before elections as it's a good way to bring out some evangelists that might not be interested in voting for other reasons. I don't like the lesser of two evils either but I don't like the idea of my being a tough guy for alturistic reasons when its only result is to bring about some horror that has to depend on this kind of thing to have a chance. It happened in 2000 in a couple of places and we have paid dearly for it. Voting for Ron Paul in those tight races has a lot of appeal but you have to be practical unless you can put up with a few decades of very unpleasant or even dangerous leaders. Charlie |

Here it is!! I'm a moron, it wasn't in a forum but on C4L's front page.
Anyway, it's a suggestion from votepact.org Quote:

This would work better if the parties did what they used to. It used to be that you campaign earlier on your extreme and lead from the center. They don't do it much anymore.
