Title: New Orleans CH Help
Post by gsockrider on Sep 30th, 2008 at 5:53pm
In 2003 I was diagonosed by the Directer of Nuerology in one of the best hospitals in the country(2000 miles away) with CH. I have been relitivy pain free (except a three week bout 1 year ago). It has started a week ago and its bad. last time he recomended a nuro here and he treated me like i was on another planet (saying it wasn't CH, etc) I have no insurance now and I don't or can't afford to see a docter who dosen't unstand what  CH is. Can anyone recommend a doctor who is aware of Clusters in New Orleans? I am not looking for drugs, I have a cabinet full of them (Relpax, Imtrex,Axert, Florinal, Midrin and a few narcs)None of them helps. Never tried oxygen but am willing. Please help if you can.

There is only one Dr. listed in New Orleans by a sufferer here.

Daniel Trahant
New Orleans

There are a few people here, who live near you who may be able to tell you who they use.   I hope they see this post.  Good luck and please please please....try to get the 02.  Any Dr. with an MD degree can prescribe 02 for you.  It doesn't HAVE to be an expensive Neurologist.

I am at a loss though as to why,  if you had a great Dr. 2000 miles away who diagnosed you... that this Dr. you saw would not take his word for it after reading your records from him.

I am so sorry that any of us have to go through this kind of nonsense from the medical community and also that you have no insurance.  So many of us, myself included...don't either.

Being that you don't have insurance, I'd suggest seeing if you qualify for a free/low income clinic around you. If you go in, tell them you have cluster headaches, and tell them you need oxygen prescribed, they may just do it to help you out.

Good luck!

LOCATING HEADACHE SPECIALIST

1. Search the OUCH site (button on left) for a list of recommended M.D.s.

2. Yellow Pages phone book: look for "Headache Clinics" in the M.D. section and look under "neurologist" where some docs will list speciality areas of practice.

3.  Call your hospital/medical center. They often have an office to assist in finding a physician. You may have to ask for the social worker/patient advocate.

4. START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE  On-line screen to find a physician.

5. START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE Look for "Physician Finder" search box.  Call 1-800-643-5552; they will send a list of M.D.s for your state.I suggest using this source for several reasons: first, we have read several messages from people who, even seeing neurologists, are unhappy with the quality of care and ATTITUDES they have encountered; second, the clinical director of the Jefferson (Philadelphia) Headache Clinic said, in late 1999, that upwards of 40%+ of U.S. doctors have poor training in treating headache and/or hold attitudes about headache ("hysterical female disorder") which block them from sympathetic and effective work with the patient; third, it's necessary to find a doctor who has experience, skill, and a set of attitudes which give hope of success. This is the best method I know of to find such a physician.

I don't know any docs in New Orleans.  I see a doctor in Mobile, al who has been helpful.    Dr. Ozgur Oztas, MD   3 Mobile Infirmary Circle  Ste 414  Mobile, AL 36607   (251) 432-5943.  He understands clusters and is willing to listen and try different approaches.  Get some oxygen ASAP.  It makes a world of difference.  Best of luck.

Regards,

Malcom

(First time I am unemployed in 35 years). Can anyone here recomend this particular Dr? I have been to sereral doctors in the past (with insurance) who did not understand my situitation and all they did was schedules MRI's and we all know the program.
