I just want to see Pelosi vs. Palin in a jello match! :)

It would be political gratification to see Palin as nasty Nancy’s boss.

And also stop Nancy from paying her real estate mogul husband $100K from her PAC.
Just because it may be legal now, the ramifications of impropriety would outweigh taking the monies in my mind considering the unnecessary amount of money going to a multi millionaire like Paul F. Pelosi. He makes enough ching to be able to afford to donate to his wife’s causes without taping money form the common man who was willing to donate to what he/she thought was a good cause.

If that $100K is from donors that condone that behavior than maybe the principles I was taught in school about right and wrong have just gone out the window for the NWO theme of greed at any cost. What’s next, paying your dog as a relaxation therapist and the gardener as a ecology advisor!

Rolo…. :-/

I do agree, yes indeed!  At least, she didn't use the term *joe sixpack* more than once.  She actually did a bit better as she got further into the interview, however, I'm still not *assured* by some of her reponses, given that she more or less refused to answer some questions (she turned on several direct questions and went entirely  in another direction).

I didn't find his getting choked up amusing. He had to cope with the tradgedy of living with the greatest loss anyone can have. He stumbled over his feelings and got on with it. Palin doesn't have the monopoly on being a parent with special needs. This debate finally gave me the direction I was looking for.

I hate when the debaters don't answer the questions asked of them.
Funny how my daughter pointed out that her "say it ain't so Joe" which she borrowed, did not seem to be effective for her.  Her use of the vernacular to reach out and be "folksy" doubles for the manner in which you speak to a recalcitrant child.  It's hysterical.

It doesn't matter how many years. He has dealt with his loss daily raising his boys. Do you really ever get over such a significant loss? My point was that so much attention has been brought up that Palin is living this middle class life with kids with special needs. Thank you Peppermint for posting in another post, her "middle class" life! I wish I could have it so bad!

This reminds me of when I worked for Travel Guard Intl.  Even though I had an excellent track record of customer service, my supervisor told me during my review that I talked like a hick and that they were trying to portray a certain professionalism and that I had to change. This is a perfect example of winning by not losing. She did fine and both the GOP and the Dems are tickled pink that this was the only veep debate. I, of course, am tempted to vote against McCain soley on my not wanting another dimwit saying NukeYOUler. bleaugh.

No gaffs and as a result it was boring. I did like Biden's turning almost every questoin back on Bush. The goal is to keep McCain out that way and as a result, her in Alaska.

Ah, this ain't so bad.  Nobody's gone newkyoolar yet.

She did pretty darn well.

I thought perhaps her head might explode.  I watched, (as I expect many did)--in part--to see the detonation.  Nothing, though.

Both seemed to be careful not to step on any of the expected landmines.  All in all, a very careful debate on both sides.  Not one for the history books, however.

Best,

Except the part where she wanted to EXPAND the VP duties in the Senate.... that's really scarey after 8 years of Big Brother Dick.

During the post game show neither the repubs nor the dems were real happy about that one.

She was prepped real well to say what she was supposed to say without saying much and she didn't answer the direct questions. I think Biden answered the questions more sincerely.

And maybe it was just me that noticed it, but if my baby was going to be on national TV with half the world watching I'd have made SURE he had SHOES on his little feet. Or at least some cute socks.

Fresh from the McCain people.

JOE BIDEN’S 14 LIES

1. TAX VOTE: Biden said McCain voted “the exact same way” as Obama to increase taxes on Americans earning just $42,000, but McCain DID NOT VOTE THAT WAY.

2. AHMEDINIJAD MEETING: Joe Biden lied when he said that Barack Obama never said that he would sit down unconditionally with Mahmoud Ahmedinijad of Iran. Barack Obama did say specifically, and Joe Biden attacked him for it.

3. OFFSHORE OIL DRILLING: Biden said, “Drill we must.” But Biden has opposed offshore drilling and even compared offshore drilling to “raping” the Outer Continental Shelf.”

4. TROOP FUNDING: Joe Biden lied when he indicated that John McCain and Barack Obama voted the same way against funding the troops in the field. John McCain opposed a bill that included a timeline, that the President of the United States had already said he would veto regardless of it’s passage.

5. OPPOSING CLEAN COAL: Biden says he’s always been for clean coal, but he just told a voter that he is against clean coal and any new coal plants in America and has a record of voting against clean coal and coal in the U.S. Senate.

6. ALERNATIVE ENERGY VOTES: According to FactCheck.org, Biden is exaggerating and overstating John McCain’s record voting for alternative energy when he says he voted against it 23 times.

7. HEALTH INSURANCE: Biden falsely said McCain will raise taxes on people's health insurance coverage -- they get a tax credit to offset any tax hike. Independent fact checkers have confirmed this attack is false

8. OIL TAXES: Biden falsely said Palin supported a windfall profits tax in Alaska -- she reformed the state tax and revenue system, it's not a windfall profits tax.

9. AFGHANISTAN / GEN. MCKIERNAN COMMENTS: Biden said that top military commander in Iraq said the principles of the surge could not be applied to Afghanistan, but the commander of NATO's International Security Assistance Force Gen. David D. McKiernan said that there were principles of the surge strategy, including working with tribes, that could be applied in Afghanistan.

10. REGULATION: Biden falsely said McCain weakened regulation -- he actually called for more regulation on Fannie and Freddie.

11. IRAQ: When Joe Biden lied when he said that John McCain was “dead wrong on Iraq”, because Joe Biden shared the same vote to authorize the war and differed on the surge strategy where they John McCain has been proven right.

12. TAX INCREASES: Biden said Americans earning less than $250,000 wouldn’t see higher taxes, but the Obama-Biden tax plan would raise taxes on individuals making $200,000 or more.

13. BAILOUT: Biden said the economic rescue legislation matches the four principles that Obama laid out, but in reality it doesn’t meet two of the four principles that Obama outlined on Sept. 19, which were that it include an emergency economic stimulus package, and that it be part of “part of a globally coordinated effort with our partners in the G-20.”

14. REAGAN TAX RATES: Biden is wrong in saying that under Obama, Americans won't pay any more in taxes then they did under Reagan.

Vp debates dont ever effect the election althought I suppose it could if someone flops and the race is very very close.

However, those who say that people either agree with a party or they dont, thats not true.  People are a lot like sheep and sway a lot during the campaign.   I think Dukakis would have won had the campaign not meant something.  Same with Gore and probably Kerry.

Most elections arent won by politics, they are won by the economy or the perception of the economy.

Food for thought

I'm a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight ...

* If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're
"exotic,
different."

* Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, a quintessential American story.

* If your name is Barack you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.

* Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you're a maverick.

* Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.

Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you're well
grounded.

* If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the
first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter
registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as
a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator
representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the
state Senate's Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the
United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while
sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and
Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, you don't have any real
leadership experience.

* If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city
council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people,
20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then
you're qualified to become the country's second highest ranking
executive.

* If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising
2 beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real
Christian.

* If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your
disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you're a Christian.

* If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the
proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.

* If, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no
other option in sex education in your state's school system while your
unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant, you're very responsible.

* If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a
prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city
community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values
don't represent America's.

* If you're husband is nicknamed "First Dude", with at least one
DWI
conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote until
age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of
Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.

OK, much clearer now?

[Edit] This ain't my work, I just got it in the mail. I did notice they did leave out Palin's experince for the years as a beauty pageant contestant.

Funny how most women who are really grounded probably would not want to admire someone who lived the beauty pageant circuit, saying the usual about those tpyes (they are not smart, they have things handed to them because of their looks, etc) but I've noticed many women who are bypassing that and looking up to to her.

If you arent gonna vote for either party candidate may I suggest this guy.   Not because he stands for anything especially good or would be a good President but because a vote for him would send a message that you think this guy is better than the choices we have.

I wonder, after so much money put into this pre election time, so much TV time talking.
Even in “our” own little village, numerous threads on the boards, posts…….
How many will go and vote, Democracy is based on, not spending money and
at times pointlessly discussing, but in actively going to vote, I don’t think 50%
will bother to go vote, and that is very sad, your voice will not count, if you don’t vote
just to talk and not do, is not living democracy, It is like masturbating, you might get your
satisfaction, but its still not quite the same as having the real thing.
Exercise your right, your duty, live the democracy, don’t just talk about it.

No Doubt.  If you can vote, you should vote.  Your right to complain (granted, that is not important to some people) ends when you don't add your vote to the process.

I dunno, maybe more people would vote if they felt there was something more to vote for.

I currently view the 2 main party candidates as a choice between "a kick in the balls" and a "kick in the ass".

Hardly gets me motivated to go wait 2 hours in line, outside in the freezing cold, with a 3 year old and a 1 year old who are up past their bedtime.

That was great Delta!!

Lisa told me I can be Vice President too cause I've been a swim team mom for 15 years. No it's not hockey but it will do, and soccer too, counting my son's 7 years! And mothering a clusterhead asthmatic has to count for someting as well as all of the democracy it takes to run a class room for over a quarter of a century!

Do deer count? I could maybe find one of those. I hit one with my car 2 years ago, that's sorta like hunting???

Say it ain't so, Char. What a traditional, insider way of killing deer. I'm talking about change.

When I governed my people (654,000), I urged them not to hit deer with their cars. I prefer that they shoot them with their registered guns. God Bless 'em, ya hey!  ;) ;)

It was suicide. The deer just jumped in front of my car while I was driving 55mph. He didn't have a moment to change his mind nor did I have a moment to think about it, no time for change of plans! Sometimes we just have to deal with what comes our way!

Only if you jumped out with your handy, dandy, fingernail file and field dressed him!

Even if ya didn't, ya got my vote!

Wildhaus,

You have an excellent point.  Since my first chance to vote in 1972 I have missed only one election when I was sent out of town on business unexpectedly and it was to late to vote absentee.

Someone referenced Barack's accomplishment of registering, what was it, 150,000 to vote?  That was for ACORN, and over 50% of those registrations were found to be fraudulent.  He also used money from the Annenburg Challenge that was specified for finding ways of improving Chicago Public Schools to do it.  He still has not accounted for what else he did with that money.

Jerry

BTW, I will not be voting for John McCain, but will be voting against Obama.  We have put up with enough of him here in IL.  Since any vote for another candidate will be automatically in favor of Obama I will very reluctantly have to cast it for McCain/Palin.

It's about time to deep six the electoral college. Wouldn't it be nice for both sides to make votes count? How about the Australian system where you are required to vote? Think of the loons that might have a chance here with that. Yikes.

I kind of like Robert Heinlein's idea in Starship Troopers that only those who served in uniform could vote.  they are the ones who have paid the price.  I know why it is set up the way it is, and I'm glad, but I think his thought has merit.

Jerry, who didn't serve, but wishes he had.

Hey I've got you beat.... I was PTA president for several terms, a baseball mom for more years than I care to remember, homeroom mother, city aggitator (got the budget cut after pointing out all the "pork" in the budget publicly on TV), been deer hunting for years and can say ya'll, ya betcha, joe six-pack, and a few catch phrases Gov Palin ain't ever heard of. And I've actually BEEN to a LOT of foreign countries. And I know what newspapers I read.

Yep, I'm qualified...  ;)

Let's run together! You can be president, you have more expereince. I'm a military brat and have lived in too many states, my sisters were born in Japan and Africa and I have lived in Panama so I guess I have foreign service too. My Dad's a West Point graduate so that's got to count for something too! I was also a vice president of our swimteam board so I have VP experience too.

Hey that's a winning ticket - except you've got more foreign policy experience so you be president (I'm lazy and think the VP spot would be perfect for me without "explanding" it)  :)

Our platform can be:

Cut the pork - quit helping anybody - keep the money at HOME...
No lobbiest in DC -- any member of congress taking money from any organization or lobbyist will be automatically "fired" immediately and stripped of all benefits.

Congress will work 11 months a year with holidays the same as the rest of the working class people. 2 weeks vacation per year.

Health care benefits for Congress will be the same as civil service employees.

The IRS code will be completely REWRITTEN in PLAIN ENGLISH with NO LOOPHOLES. And no more than 50 pages (tops).

We will begin to start relying on our own resources and quit depending on foreign sources and imported goods.

We will put REGULATIONS back in place for monopolies.  (and we will define monopolies).

We will begin to run OUR country as Joe-Main Street runs his business and show the profit and loss to the kids back home or answer to them.

We're a shoo in..... ;)  Now we've just got to raise about 100 million dollars to campaign...

Sounds good but you would make a better president and I don't work summers. That's how I've managed to teach so long. Why does this seem too simple???

That's ok, I'll send her to an "undisclosed location" on a fact finding mission during the summers... That should cover that one... ;)

Of course cause it makes up for the night and weekend work the other 10 months as well as the random school supplies needed that the school doesn't pay for. This could be the beginning of another thread!

Not true - Project Vote that Obama was involved with was not an acorn project. The only time there was a connection between Obama and Acorn was once when Obama was suing the State of Illinois to get the motor-voter laws enforced - not only was acorn part of that lawsuit, but so was the US Department of Justice.
