That is just plain scary Cat. I'm glad to hear you are ok.

That was my hope Pegg, the oldtimers (egads I'm getting to be one myself) never wore them.
Flipper, for me, the seat belt was as much a habit as turning the ignition key - an angel was with me on Thursday. For all you yungins, it is NOT kewl to go without a seatbelt - it will end up with you dead. Cat |

Oh my! I'm glad that you're okay! Wearing a seatbelt is something I do without even thinking about it!

p.s. I have top rate insurance and am rated on my driving skills - I am (was) rated #1 - that accident took all of 1 second to begin and then it was too late.
DON'T TEXT AND DRIVE EITHER |

No Charotte I was alone in the van, I was on my way to pick up my daughter though....
What I had a hard time figuring out was that I went off on the passenger side - yet it's the drivers side that was totaled. EVERYONE told me how lucky I was - the wrecker couldn't believe I was the driver when we pulled into his yard about 4 hours later. At the scene, he asked the trooper how many fatality's. I will never understand one thing though - once it all stopped - and there was no slow motion I was trying to regain control til the end - I realized I was upside down, and put my hand on the roof. and undid my seat belt - that roof was as clean and clear as the day we bought it nearly 5 years ago. There was glass from the rear window and coins EMBEDDED in the driver window, windshield, and dash, yet none hit me..... We went back and looked at the scene and the reason we *think* I flipped is because of a 3' round tree that I was headed straight for and I must have hard lefted it - I clipped the tree with the right front bumper, then the mountain did the rest. I still can't believe that I just have some seat belt bruises .... Cat |

Musta been that plastic Jesus on yer dashboard that saved ya.
Cat...you have the WORST luck...but the BEST luck of anyone I know... Seat belt goes on before car goes into gear here...the whole family is trained. Now...as for texting whilst driving...no more. Love, one of your sisters Mast |
Title: Re: WEAR YOUR SEAT BELTS Post by George_J on Oct 5th, 2008 at 11:16pm
Glad to hear that you're okay, Cat, and that you walked away relatively unscathed. Frightening.
Seat belt usage is mandatory for everyone who rides in our cars--a seat belt saved my life in a head-on collision when I was eighteen (icy roads). It was only a lap belt at the time...as it was, I struck my throat on the steering column and damaged my larynx. It took years to heal completely. Wear 'em, folks. All the best, George |

Thank God you're okay. Langa |
Title: Re: WEAR YOUR SEAT BELTS Post by Bob P on Oct 6th, 2008 at 6:40am
Yep. My oldest daughter rolled her car 2 1/2 times in the highway median. Walked away with a broken collar bone from the seatbelt. Better that then a broken neck!

Well ya see it's like this LOL - we moved to Western North Carolina - the blue ridge and smoky's (yeah I know you guys west of the Colorado think these is hills) but when you put a fish - I grew up next to the rivers and great lakes (literally next to them they were across the road) and then moved to Nebraska (where I was miserable - did you know they only have 3 seasons green yellow and brown?) I'm from the EAST damnit we have 4 seasons here the they call it fall/autumn, when we we are at Ft. Drum and I drove Clark to the hills (I won't call them Adirondacks mountains ok? hehe) he saw the bright bright red in person for the first time and looked at me and said "that ain't natural" So When the military told us we were moving (don't even get me started that Clark was supposed to get out at 20 years, he now has 24.....) to Asheville NC by the Chief Master Sgt of AFWA - the Air Force Weather Agency (E9 not that it matters it's like the chief msgt of the af, rank stops having meaning), I was not amused - then Clark tried to say but I don't want to move - or more precisely my wife isn't moving - Clark (who is senior msgt - E8) was given a list of 15 bases and told rack and stack 'em. I said lets got to Asheville..... In other words, the military moved us here for the old Air Combat Climatology Center now the 14 Weather Sqaudron (yes, Clark is a meteorologist for anyone who didn't know). And then I was driving the snake back road that goes down from our house (as Clark calls the road) less than a mile from my house on my way to pick my daughter up from school when I moved my purse from the center console to the passenger seat - up here - all 1000 ft that our house is - and that's all it took - I went off the road driving with the passenger side to the mountain (down the mountain) and now we are car shopping, you can say what you want about KIA but that van (a Sedona) was heavy, and it saved my life - now when Clark found another KIA Sedona, white even - needless to say I said F UCK NO, not just no, but F UCK NO. And that's what I was doing on a mountain. Cat p.s. any recommendations from anyone??? (must seat 5 and a dog on 695 mile trip?? |

Girl ain't that the truth! LOL I read that and busted out laughing, gotta call RJ and tell him his plastic Jesus saved me LOLOLOL. 2 days before me, my nephew had an accident, he had his legs pinned in the vehicle, he's ok though but his girlfriend (apparently ex now) was texting when they hit a telephone pole. I'm tellin ya, those trees and poles, they don't like cars! Geez here in podunkville I even made the breaking news with a pic of the van still on it's roof. The reporter was on scene within 20 min. grrrr If I can get the pic of the vehicle upside down off the newspaper I'll post it - but small like just for you ;) Love Cat (Always one of your sisters - do you think RJ would object to being called a sister? LOL) |

Glad that you made it out of that uninjured. I think moderate body work may be in order before you can get that one back on the road.

Cat I am gald you are ok, I have to agree aboult wearing steat belts I had a one just like you a few months ago and walked away with LOTS of brusres, I had a small car, and they had to use jaws of life to get me out. So I now have a two door car the only problem is that the two doors on the same side :) so my car looks a little worse then yours, I don't know how to post pictures But I am So happy that you also were able to walk away also.

Title: Re: WEAR YOUR SEAT BELTS Post by sailpappy on Oct 7th, 2008 at 5:16am
;D ;DHey Cat,
I Live here too! Remember, John(sailpappy) who also drives a Kia Sedona(2006) and an Isuzu Trooper(1994) and a Yamaha YZF600RB(1998), its not the car that ran off the road Lady, and thats the point, you have to stay on the road or go cliff diving, I think about it all the time when I am laying my bike into the curves that have Cliff's straight up on one side and straight down on the other! You haveto put the communicator down and stop contacting the MotherShip when your driving around the curves! Thats all! I'll sell you my Kia Sedona if you want a 2006 with 42,000 miles on it! John |
Title: Re: WEAR YOUR SEAT BELTS Post by catlind on Oct 7th, 2008 at 6:04am
John I think it will be MONTHS before you can talk me back into a KIA - that sucker is heavy as get out, and it saved my life.
And the KIA went off the road because I was moving my purse from the center to the passenger seat. That's all it took - up here, that's all it takes. Lesson learned. Cat |
Title: Re: WEAR YOUR SEAT BELTS Post by catlind on Oct 8th, 2008 at 10:18pm
We finally got the other pics up from the crash if anyone wants to look, the passenger side looks fine, although none of the doors actually work hehe.
START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!! You need to ![]() ![]() For the life of me I can't figure out how the back hatch window blew out and was all the way in front of the vehicle and embedded in the windshield, dash and drivers window..... Some stuff fell out of my purse and fell back in broken - or broke and only half of it fell out either or, weird stuff..... wish I'd have been able to find my glasses though - contacts for me until I get new ones *sigh* The one at the scene was taken about 30 minutes after the crash by the local news reporter, I was long gone. What baffled the firemen was why the van was falling up - the roof had been laying on the pavement - *grin* they just never dealt with the likes of me before ;) Cat |
