Title: Can I catch a ride?
Post by Racer1_NC on Oct 12th, 2008 at 2:55pm
Went to the garage this afternoon and found a hitchhiker in the bed of my truck. I don't know where he wanted to go, but I do know where he went.  ;D

Relieved to know it wasn't in the cab.  Wow...I've never ever seen a spider that looked like that.  Must be a No. Carolina breed.  ;)

I don't know the proper name, all I've ever heard them called is "writer" spiders due to the web they weave. Some of the bigger webs sometimes look like they have writing in them....supposed to be bad luck if you see your name in the web.

Nah.... I sprayed it.....then vacuumed up the remains with a shop vac.

You don't happen to have a pig in your neighborhood named Charlotte do you?

As they say....the prettier they are, the more necessary it is to stomp them.

Shucks Bill, I was thinking about a snake or a skunk, but it was only a spider  ;D.  We have several spiders on our front porch that weave some pretty neat webs.

If it had been a snake or a skunk there would have been no pictures. I don't take pics while running like hell........   ;D

Bill you mofo, you did that on purpose!!!  You know damn well that son of a spider should have been swimming in a lake of poison!!

Bill was online chatting with me the other night when ANOTHER brown recluse made it's appearance in my garage - and I emptied about 1/3 of a can of spider spray on it and watched it backstroke to death.

Fuckers, now I have to go buy more spray and carry on my personal Jihad against all spiders within a 2 foot perimeter of the house, time to kill some arachnids!

That's why my house has the patented '2 foot perimeter of death', as I call it.

It probably violates a few state and federal gudelines for the use of pesticides.

Spiders.  There sure are a lot of them.

Just a pleasantry to occupy the thoughts of you arachniphobes...

You're never more than three feet from a spider.

Have a nice day.

Best wishes,

George

We seem to have the same general type of spider here in Texas. As a newly transplanted Californian, the bugs are going to be adjustment for me……

I'm with you Fu, the hell with intended use and all that jazz....I find as much poison as I can and I use a trigger sprayer and doing a full 2' perimeter to the house and the entire foundation blocks from the siding to the ground.  If it *was* living there, it won't be for long!!

I keep at least one full can of spider poison and another jug of general insect poison with the gun sprayer, then mama packs her heat and goes on a spider Jihad around the house.

I'm all for nature, and I prefer to use natural methods when I can, EXCEPT when it involves 8 legged things, then I'm all about poison.  I used dawn dish liquid on the post to the hummingbird feeder to keep the ants away (works reasonably well) since I won't harm any other animal in nature if it can at all be avoided.  But I draw the line at arachnids, you can tell me they eat all the bugs in the world and I still don't care, it's death for them by any means (except squashing since I squashed one in upstate NY once that was pregnant and a bazillion babies came pouring out) so it's all poison now.

Arachnids usually lay eggs, which hatch into immatures that resemble adults, but scorpions bear live young.

I think I would have thrown the spider the keys to the truck and gone back inside the house screaming like a little girl.   Ewwww!

Here's a cool link for a great website about spiders if anyone is interested:
