It's not been that long ago that 2 bucks a gallon would have meant heart failure.....now it would be like hitting the lotto.

When you've got electrodes attached to your nads, and the juice has been running at 1,000 volts for awhile, it must feel good to have it turned down to 800.

On a pesimistic note, NPR has been followig gas prices and saying the oil industry is considering cutting back production because this drop will contribute to a recession???? I don't get it cause I thought that's what we were told to do, cut back and the demand would be less causing prices to drop. I am confused!

We're already in a recession Charlotte and due to it, demand is going down, which means their supplies are going up, which means they'd have to cut back on production. (I hope I'm explaining this right).

5 years ago I filled my tank when I arrived in Omaha at $1.53 a gallon.

Last night in Asheville the price was $3.39 a gallon - but the boys that gave me my new ride filled me up for free  :D

The week of Ike when gas was hard to even FIND here, it was at 4.99 a gallon - at the only station in our little town that even HAD gas.
(I smell some charges and/or fines coming on that one....)

I guess it depends upon whose dozen companies you're talking about.  

It's not just the price of crude.  The supply and the prices are manipulated by reducing the amount of oil that goes through the refineries as well.  The oil companies have done that for years.  After all--why sell two gallons at $1.25 when you can sell one gallon at $3.00?  

If the price of crude oil goes down too fast, watch for the idling of refineries here in the near future, resulting in a "shortage" that will keep prices high.  Not that there's any collusion going on, you understand.  Oh, heck no.  

Gotta keep those prices up so the oil companies can maintain the lifestyles to which they've become accustomed...   ::)

Somebody needs to figure out how to make fuel out of mud and dandelions.  Nothing but some actual competition is going to change this little dance.

You're probably the only other person I know who's actually tasted the stuff.  When I was a kid, a few folks I knew in the midwest used to make and bottle it.  Sounds all Ray Bradbury-ish and exotic, but the actual flavor put me in mind of a tomcat that had been fried overnight on an electric chair.

87 octane (yesterday) $3.39.....It has come down .20 since my last fill up this past friday.....I was in kentucky a few months ago and noticed that gas was appr. .80 cheaper than us (not fair).....

I'm paying $3.79 for diesel now and that's a damn bargain.  Last week, the lowest I could get was $4.09.  There's a web site I check for lowest prices, but it's always more expensive to drive to the cheaper station (distance/mpg*$/gal), but since I drive the Ford Planet Killer Edition Excursion with a 44 gallon tank, I have nearly 800 miles to travel before I have to pick a station.  Still, filling up hurts, paid $140 yesterday.

I think it's time I moved to the US, we are paying Aus $ 8.42 a gallon for ULP & Aus $ 8.87 for Diesel :'(

It's $2.85 here. It will go back up. Thanksgiving and Christmas is about here, people travel, then the gas will raise.  It goes up every Holiday and in summer. I am going to enjoy it wile I can.

When I say "$2.89", I don't mean just some places, with a little slop around the edges--some at $3.04, say, and others at $2.99, and so forth, I mean EVERYBODY is selling gas at $2.89.

It's always like that around here.  Doesn't matter what brand it is, doesn't matter what service station or C store is selling it, everybody has the same price--always.

Being a recent transplant from California to Texas, I was happy to fill my pickup yesterday for $2.05/gallon at an HEB store in Taylor Texas.

Seems funny to say that because gas was around 25-35 cents per when I started driving.  It got below 20 cents during "gas wars"

Back when I got my license, you could get gas for $.27!

Hell, I find it laughable (have to laugh, as it hurts so much) that in 1973, I sold my 1969 Thunderbird (back when they were BIG cars, with HUGE engines, and ENORMOUS gas tanks) because it cost too much to fill up the tank.  It cost me a whole $9.00!!!

It was $2.49 on Sunday, I haven't been by the gas station yet this week.

I remember when it went to over $1.00/gal. The government sent out a questionnaire to a select few. A friend of mine got one. One of the questions was... If gas prices were over $1.00 per gallon, would you buy it?

Do I have a choice? Figures. I'm thinking this was in 80 or so, and all hell was breaking loose because gas was over $1.00/ gal. I think it was about $1.25, and gas stations were running out of gas.

One thing I've noticed is grocery prices are slightly lower, due to the lower fuel surcharge on product. Milk dropped to $2.69, last week it was $3.39 for a gallon.

I filled up my tank last night.   It was empty.  My plan was to stop it at $25 but it stopped at $23.30.  I couldn't believe it.... a full tank of gas for under $25!

I got gas the other day at 2.39 with a discount from Safeway.  That is $2 per gallon cheaper than the highest I paid.  
I spent $30 for what was $55 in July.  It sure feels like a heck of a bargain to me.

I dug into this when gas hit $2.65 in Morro Bay. The total taxes were $.68 per gallon at that point. I can only imagine the tax windfall to the Govt(s) when we were paying almost $5.00. Incredible..............

My son has a theory on this one.... He bought an economy car and prices "immediately" began to drop and haven't stopped.

I just saw on the news that one of our local supermarkets is giving a 50 cents off a gallon up to 20 gallons if you spend $100 on groceries.  I don't know about any of you, but it's not that hard to spend $100 on groceries with the prices the way they are.

I've been saying this for a looooong time. A larger piece of our budget goes to groceries than gas. Back when I drove 30-40K miles per year that wouldn't have been true, but I would venture a guess that it's true for the "average" American driving 15K miles per year.

Gas was $1.92 this morning but I was running late so I thought I'd get it after work. It was $1.88 this evening! Who says it doesn't pay to put things off!? I filled up with $20 bill but got back enough change to get a chocolate chip cookie from the Subway counter!

The oil companies are trying hard to make us forget that their $4.00+ prices are what ruined the economy in the first place. Funny how they know what the market can bear, and when they can get away with charging just under the breaking point. >:(

There's one of four stations here who lowers his prices about  $.02 every day..........so it's down to $2.01 today.  Yahoo!

It is true, the stations name was "Race Track" on 1941 in Jonesboro Ga.
Yesterday it was $1 a gal and Diesel was one dollar eighty five. The other stations are $1.39 to $129 ! I haven't been out today so not sure what the prices are.

I am calling to find out how much propane is. I think I will fill the propane tank up NOW ! I need a 100 gals LOL hope its down.

Prices around St. Louis range from $1.55 to $1.79.   It is about $1.68 close to my home.  Sure beats $4.99!

Yep - the leadership on Capitol Hill is quietly talking about moving quickly while the prices are low so we don't notice it - before the effects of OPEC's  emergency meeting next week in Cairo hit us here.

If you don't already know, look at OPEC and your view of oil prices may change - a lot. Don't blame me, I work for the largest solar energy provider in North America!  :)

Oil has dropped to a 3-4 year low, and the bigger oil producing nations just aren't going to let it stay there long. Why should they - they have us by the throat. We'll just keep buying it anway - we've proven that. I see no reason why we won't see $5.00-$6.00 gas on this next upswing. I like Kisinger's idea of how to handle it. Remember what Aramco stands for.

Oh, I paid $1.689 to fill up my wife's car this morning.

I live about 65 miles south of Buffalo. People there have about the most expensive gas in the country........and no one can explain it. Prices in other parts of the state are considerably less. There is no precedent for it. Nobody gets it

What are your Federal/State/County/Municipal/Optional taxes? I'll bet if you know those number, you will get it.

I understand what you are saying but there are no new taxes or fees added. Prices were similar to the rest of the State earlier. Not so now.

I was wondering, with the price of gas perhaps expected to rebound a few dollars per gallon in the future to come, why is the present few cents that are possible in taxes the biggest indeterminant that will be taken from me?

What is your point, that taxes are ok but that supply and demand fluctuations are the norm? I’m just saying that the government (state and federal) will be increasing the tax and you as well as I will be paying it. Did I somehow get the situation wrong?

Gas is about $2.35 a gal here.  Approx 1/2 what it was at it's peak.  Oil is less than $50/bbl approx 1/3 what it was at it's peak.  Gas is much higher at the pump now than it was the last time the price of oil was around $50 / bbl and people are thinking this is great.

Something is wrong.  Congress really showed the oil companys who's boss when they paraded the heads of the oil companys in front of them to get answers.  Congress likes high prices.  It means more tax revenue.

Yes paul but the consumption is what drives the tax revenue. The tax is the same per gal if it's $1 or $4 per gal. With consumption dropping, the tax will have to be a 2X increase to puff the general fund enough to satisfy the gov. >:(

Check this....Mass residents voted to abolish the income tax three weeks ago, it was 70 to 30 to keep the tax.....(Idiots)

Since then the state has said they are going to double the tolls (that were paid for 20 years ago) and raise the gas tax.

Boston is not mentioned but what you posted sounds like this type of user fee.  The interview talks about earmarks and spending properly, at the end she mentions this money being spent more directly on the area, however, being spent properly is... what was that tunnel in Boston called?   ;)

I have no idea what the taxes per gallon are in west Texas, but I paid $1.56/gal today. I couldn't be happier. It went from $73 per tank to $36 per tank. That is something I can be happy about.
Now about that car that runs on bullshit. Washington DC alone could supply the nation...southern California a close second.

I bet western NY gas is below $2 on the Seneca reservation. Of course from Jamestown, it's a 44 mile round trip.

There is something very fishy about gas prices over here. It's about the same in my county.

$1.69 in Northern Va for Reg Uleaded. Unfortunately for me, my car requires 92+ Octane. I did capitalize on $1.89/gal in Moyock, NC for Reg UL a few weeks ago when I took a trip to the Outer Banks of NC to fish. Only cost $45.00 to fill up my Expedition!!! I had not seen that in a long time.

Your prices have always been much lower than ours. :'( :'(

We have only just gone below £1 a litre for diesel and pretty much the same for petrol (I think there are just over 3 and 3/4 litres to the gallon)

It STILL costs me £80 i.e. nearly $120 to fill my car and that really hurts at the moment as we get through two tanks a week. Finding £160 a week really isn't funny at all.

Thank God I don't live in as big a country as you all do or we couldn't afford to go anywhere!
