Title: Sorry we didn't hire you but here's some chocolate
Post by sandie99 on Oct 14th, 2008 at 1:59pm
Timo applied a job at Panda, Finnish company which makes licorice and chocolate. The company's main office is located here in our home city.

After a long process and uncertainty, Timo got his answer this afternoon: a letter in which they explained that this time they didn't pick him, but that they appreciated the ideas he brought up in his application and thanked him for his interest in working for them.

Timo liked the letter a lot, but even more the box of chocolate which the company had sent along with the letter. A great way to show their appreciation, don't you think? Especially, when the guy who got is is a chocaholic... ;)

That was a nice way to say "Sorry we didn't hire you."

It's rare to even get a phone call or rejection letter here in the US.  A box of Chocolates was an especially nice touch.

I'm impressed with that gesture as well.

Back in here, you can never tell if the company one applies a job from will ever reply. In the age of internet it's so easy to type a rejection letter, but no, it still doesn't necessarily happen.

About two weeks ago I went to a job interview after one agency called me. After 20 minute long interview with the agency they sent to meet the client and had 40 minute long interview with them. The lady who would be the future boss informed me that she would personally call me on Tuesday with the results.

Well, that was supposed to be LAST Tuesday, not today, and I haven't heard anything. If that job would have something to do with journalism, I would have already called them back, but as it turned out, the agency talked about one job (customer service) and the client talked about another (telemarketing), so I'm not that sad about not hearing a thing.

But, still, if you say you're going to call - and give a specific day when you're going to call, back in here it used to mean that I'd actually would get that call. Not this time.
