 That makes me so sad, I hope they start allowing them to keep the pets. These people are over there fighting a war. They should be ALLOWED to keep the pets that help them get through doing that...

Sorry, but how about following orders in time of war?

The US military is not a pet adoption agency, we have enough trouble getting our soldiers back alive never mind some mangy dog!

Im a pet lover, but I love our soldiers way more to worry about diseased dogs coming here.

Well, first of all...It's not the military getting them back. It's operation baghdad pups. The military doesn't have to pay for it. If the SPCA is willing to, why refuse to let them so long as they make sure it's not a diseased dog? Or, she could have flown it home on her OWN money. Either way, the Military HAS agreed to allow the dog to be flown out by them.

Yes, it may be against the rules, but you put yourself in our soldiers shoes. You're stuck over there, away from your friends and family. Having to deal with a lot of nasty things. A pet is a HUGE comfort in times of need, and in times of great emotional distress. Why deny them that comfort? If it makes it easier for them to deal with being over there, and isn't hurting anyone, I'm all for it.

the regulations against servicemembers adopting pets in a war zone are not new.  They have reasoning behind them that goes beyond what ought be posted here.  For one of our servicepeople to adopt a pet against regulations and then to expect to be allowed to bring them home is asinine.  I know our people adopt pets while over there, and it gets winked at, but they should not feel put upon when they are not allowed to break regs.

They are there to do a job, which includes a certain protocol.  There are reasons why the military will or will not let you do something.

I see nothing wrong with petitioning the Dept. of Def. for permission to bring the dog back by the org.  But if it's denied, it's denied.

Eh, either way, the Military did grant clearance this time, so that the dog can be brought to America. :) So this story does have a happy ending.

Let's bring our young men and women home and worry about puppies later....

I'm not quite understanding your response here.  I thought it was a good human interest story.  In no way, shape or fashion was I trying to *sling* anything at our military.

I'm sorry that I didn't make it clear, I was referring to the media for publishing this "human interest" story, not that YOU were slinging barbs at the US military.

I am not too pleased by the US media's focus on news as entertainment/supporting their advertising/lack of objectivity.

I agree Ray this happens every day,  kids go to Mexico and find a lizzard and want to keep it as a pet but customs refuse anything living from crossing the border, or the little old lady that find a beutiful plant and cant bring it in our counrty.  Why aren't those on the news,  these laws are in place to protect us and our eco-system.
 Brew I hope Potter reads this because I dont think veitnam was derclared a "war" either.
  Pixie-elf thats not a happy ending to me the dog will have to be quarintined, many test done and our dollars will cover that when the VA cant seem to afford proper medical treatment for its vets.
