Title: EBAY advice Post by Callico on Oct 21st, 2008 at 9:39pm
Those of you who ebay I could use a bit of advice. I was at an estate sale Sun and bought a bunch of paperback books, hoping to find some that had some value. BINGO! I found an old James Bond paperback that was titled "To Hot to Handle" which Ian Fleming did not like. He wanted it titled "Moonraker". There were very few of these printed before they redid them and retitled them "Moonraker". Hence, they are rare. The one I bought (for less than a dime :) ) is near perfect shape, in almost unread condition, other than it was dropped at some point and marred the base of the spine. I checked it out on Bookfinder.com and found it valued somewhere between $350 and $500.
My question is, how best can I market it on Ebay, or is there a better way to sell it? I could really use the money right now, although I will probably hold on to some of the other good values I got for a later date. If I can do well enough on this one I might try marketing some of the others rather than trying to move them at a show. Any help would be appreciated. Jerry |

Charlie is definetly your man on this one Jerry. He's sold more useless Origami to the touristas on Ebay then anyone in history.

NY, Perma Books, 1956 (1957).
Nice find. You have a good eye. Watch out--you may catch the book scout bug. ;) I've sold a few old books on Ebay, (although not that many). Look for the section in "books" labeled "Antiquarian and Collectible". It's where you'll do the best with it. Most of the big bookshops in the country keep an eye on that section, as do some savvy collectors. I'm willing to bet that you'll get top dollar for it, since there don't seem to be all that many nice copies around. When posting your photos, be sure to put in good, clear shots of the back, the front, and the spine. Include a photo of the title page as well. That should answer most of the questions your potential buyers may have. Anything else to add, Charlie? Best, George |

Thanks all! I really appreciate the input. Got to get set up with an account I guess. I may wait until the one auction ends as that book is in slightly better condition with the ding on the spine of mine. Bookfinders.com rated it a little higher than one of them is listed on Ebay, so I may not do as well as I had hoped, but the return is still astronomical! :)
George, I've been collecting and dealing locally with books for some time, but I've never done anything with paperbacks. It is a whole different market, but it seems to be a much easier one to deal with and to find bargains in. Course, it is always easier to find them than to sell them! :) Anybody want a real deal?
