Title: first hit with o2 Post by TarHeel-blues on Oct 27th, 2008 at 1:00am
well predn taper has wore off and just got my first hit since getting my o2 and i got just one thing to say.kiss my ass imitrex..o2 worked great.ill admit wasnt exactly a kip 10 but still i was impressed.knocked it out in under 10 minutes.now im not exactly sure what the lpm 's were o2 guy said regulator was a 15 but i cranked it on down and the needle went on past 15 and it sounded like it was pushing harder than 15 so i couldnt be sure ,,so at least 15 maybe a little more..but worked great to say the least.thanks for turning me on to the o2 ..another satisfied customer :)

Jason, Great news! Now the battle plan, from a 20yr. vet.:
Leave your regulator set on 15 with the tank turned off. (you won't lose your O2) you want to be ready for full blast when the hit comes, then work your way down. When you FIRST feel the pain hit the O2, any hesitation will only prolong the abort time. Breath deep and exhale completely, hypervenilation is the quikest way to abort. Sit back and grasp the fact that you have kicked the beast out the door. But listen to Linda and keep the Imitrex handy, we do have O2 failures and if this happens don't get discouraged, it happens to us too but not very often. Good Luck & Happy Beast Hunnting, Don |

Awesome news Jason. It doesn't work for everyone but everyone should at least give it a shot. Welcome to the 70% club!!!
Folks, it is for people like Jason that we push O2. For those us us luck enough, it is a great alternative to triptans. -Dennis- |

OMG!!! (not to steal your thunder Jason)
I love Oxygen!! Tonight was my first hit with oxygen on hand. My average attack pre-oxygen is about an hour to 90 minutes. With oxygen...it aborted in about 10 - 15 minutes!! Without a doubt, Oxygen is the easiest and quickest way to abort an attack!! My only regret is not having the knowledge of what Oxygen could do years ago. |

hey guys is the E-tank the smallest travel tank we can use for an abort?
-jason- |
Title: Re: first hit with o2 Post by thebbz on Oct 29th, 2008 at 8:40pm
There are smaller, but you will only get one abort. M series.
M6,7, and 9, then there's a D which is just under an E tank. the bb |

I classify the "E" tank as a "3 hit" tank. There have been a few times, that I was forced to take "D" tanks, due to my vendor temporarily being out of "E" tanks. I classify the "D" tank as being a "2 hit" tank. Now, my rating also depends on the actual hit that you have, as to how stubborn the beast is. I have had hits where I used a full "E" tank, while trying to abort one hit. Therefore, the 3 or 2 hit rating is a general rating. YMMV Chuck |

well the reason i even asked is ..earlier tonight i had to run to target and my e-tank and reg was in my work truck...i kinda have a spot behind the seat for it so i didnt feel like getting it out,,, but im also out of imitrex at the present hence the thought ,, "i wonder if there is a small little tank for maybe 1 abort thats even easier to carry than the e-tank"i guess that may just be a time to just grab my imitrex and run? since i will not be out anymore now that i have the o2.any oppinions? is everybody taking o2 with them everywhere everytime no exceptions?maybe this shoulda been a new subject?

Title: Re: first hit with o2 Post by Skyhawk5 on Oct 29th, 2008 at 10:06pm
Jason, That's a good question. Myself, I usually get the attacks mostly at night, so in the day I still have the O2 in the truck but feel reasonably safe to go in store or be away for up to half an hour or more, but, ready to run if needed.
If I'm getting hit in the daytime I use the cart (maybe they didn't give you one) with wheels and drag it along with me. It's a little akward but not that bad. I put a towel over the mask for protection and to wipe my face if I do get hit. A smaller tank just doesn,t seem worth it to me, and may not have enough O2 when I need it. Hope this helps. Best, Don |
Title: Re: first hit with o2 Post by ClusterChuck on Oct 29th, 2008 at 10:32pm
I don't go anywhere without my O2 close by.
I DON"T take the tank in with me when I go someplace. If I feel a hit coming on, I just head to my vehicle (or whoever I am riding with) and suck on the O2 in the somewhat privacy of the vehicle. It is just something that you get used to doing. Many times I have had to leave my shopping cart, somewhere, to go deal with a hit. Or left a nice hot meal, only to come back to a cold one. BUT, it is my life, so I have accepted it. Whatever you do DO NOT ever stop doing what you want to do, just because you might get hit. Make sure your abort weapons are close at hand, and go out and live your life! Chuck |
Title: Re: first hit with o2 Post by MrsT on Oct 29th, 2008 at 10:54pm
Like Chuck, I carry my E tank if I'm away from home for an extended period of time and use it in the car. For short trips and IF I know I'm pretty sure to be safe without having O2 around, I go without. I do however carry Imitrex pills in my keycase, even during remission.
You may get the hang of your own pattern of attacks to know when you absolutely need to be dragging your E tank. I used to have a huge H tank in the bedroom for home use and my E tank in the car. I'd be uncomfortable with a D tank if I'm away from home for over 8 hours. |

I use E tanks for home use, I have a D in a carrying case in the truck....it's there everywhere I go.

I carry a C tank in my ute which in OZ is a 3 hit tank but I also carry a 6 pack of Red Bull in the little car fridge, so depending on the size of the hit I'm covered all round.

Ditto for me. If the D gets low, one of my E's goes in the truck with me - always. |
