Title: On a lighter note.........
Post by Marc on Nov 1st, 2008 at 12:59pm
I was recently asked by PM what kind of camera a person should buy in order to take better pictures. This person was expecting a long explanation about expensive high-end equipment, but my answer was "What ever camera you have enough comfort with to spend the time to really learn how to use it"

I showed some examples of images taken with my 5 year old, $300, 3 mega-pixel Fuji point and shoot.

My interpretation of Bixby bridge

That's it, I'm headed to Los Osos for Noi's today.  Bob, if you're around, I'll be there around noon.

I really like the one of the bridge and the fog.  I like how it appears to *disappear*.

Great pics, Marc.

I used to be a photographer (although I think it's more like riding a bike... I just don't have the time for it now) and I always chuckled at the comment... "That camera sure takes good pictures!"

You can take good pictures with about any camera. Subject(s), lighting and composition have the most to do with taking a "good" picture. And ,of course, what Marc said about learning how to use the features of the camera. Try it! It's fun.  :)

I sincerely thank all of you folks for the kind words, but my point was to get other people to think about developing their skills instead of assuming a new camera is always the answer. Is newer, bigger, better faster a good thing? You bet, because it makes it easier – but I’ve seen incredible images from the lowest level cameras too!

:) One of the Pro’s that I shoot with often responds with: “Yeah, it can take really bad pictures too”
