Title: Can anyone give me one good reason?
Post by superhawk2300 on Nov 1st, 2008 at 5:39pm
as to why another section should not be made under "Daily Chat" called "Politics"?

There is one for jokes, why not one for political / religious talk?

Even after the election the political talk is not going to stop. Listening to both sides reveals the core problem, to me that is. There is this misconception of "winning" and somehow there is "the right way".

As long as people have different backgrounds there will be different takes on which politics are best. Does anyone here think that people who make a million dollars a year would have any thing politically in commen with somone who makes 20,000 a year? Or someone who had an abortion and someone who belongs to some strict religious group would have anything in common?

This is CLUSTER HEADACHES.com. That should be the main issue at hand IMO. The other stuff is great to get to know people but I've seen many people come here only to leave because of eveything non-CH related.

I belong to many message boards. Some simply do NOT allow any topic other than what the board is about. Some place bans on religion and politics, adn some have seperate spaces for those types of discussions.

I would like to see a seperate room for political / religious discussions. That way if someone wants to bang heads, feel free in that area. If someone goes into that area and starts to whine about it, then it can be said "too bad, don't go there".

I know some may think this is over-accomodating those that "cannot hack it" or whatever you want to call it. I call it "not throwing out the baby with the bathwater". What can I say, I am a whiney-pinko-commie-girl thingy-liberal.  ;)

Okay I must lodge an official protest with DJ AGAINST  Fubar. How come Superhawk gets the commie label, yet I get the fu%$ing commie label for saying the same thing??? Fairness is clearly called for here. ;D ;D

That question has been brought up to DJ a few times.   I suppose he didn't think it was a good idea.

Tell you what - I'll be pinko-commie and you can fu%$ing commie. How's that?

I guess just the seldom used Joke one threw me off. A political / religion board would be specific, not General. And have 100 times the posts the Joke Board has in one week of time.

Seriously, it makes no sense to me.

Or maybe replace the Joke board with the political one. There. Still only 2 boards and much more functional seeing as most jokes are posted in the General Board anyways.

Seems enough interest to warrent a try. It isn't like it takes any amount of work to make a new area. At least not in any of the boards I setup or moderated. Since it is the "gloves off" area it takes less moderation than normal. And it isn't like DJ is a big Nazi who loves to censor posts and stuff. But I don't own the joint and it was just an idea. i was unaware others had brought it up. I am good either way.

General Board vs Specific Boards
Are there many other boards?
No.
OK, leave it.

So we should not try to improve? Sure, it could be left alone.....

Asprin vs Imitrex
Are there many others for whom asprin does not cure a headache?
No.
OK, leave it?

:-?

This is the General section, ANYTHING can be discussed.  If your idea gets carried further, we would end up with a dozen different sections.

There ARE areas to go to, if all you are interested in is cluster specific.  If that is all you are interested in, stay in those areas.  No one is forced to go to any other area.

One of the greatest things about Deej, is the way he stays out of things, and uses his erasure capabilities VERY little.  It has to get pretty bad before he steps in.  I like that.  Yes, at times it gets rather nasty, but I respect the restraint that Deej uses with that "delete" key.

What is the saying?  "Take what you need, and leave the rest."  It is usually fairly obvious when a thread is political or religious.  Even if it is not obvious from the title, as soon as you see what it is, in the text, get the flock outta there, if you don't want to read that stuff!

Seems fairly simple to me.

Chuck, who rarely reads political threads

DJ has asked me for many years to post pictures of me in that section and I have refused.  Because of that, DJ didn't think it was worth it.

Next idea??  How about a section for posting about disinfectants/cleaners?

One good reason?

DJ owns the place, and he can set it up any way he wants to.  'Course, he may welcome thoughts and suggestions.

Deej is the go-to guy.  We just infest the place.   ;)

I wonder what the super charged tsunami was that hit this place in the past to get the "Jokes" section opened up.

I too like the refrain DJ has for the delete key. Which is why another place for people to argue would be nice.

It is not that simple. Sure if I was only reading new threads it would be that simple. The idea is for people who do not want to be bothered by political RESPONSES. It is not that I am so dumb I cannot spot a political thread until I am 4 posts into an argument.........

Here is a real life example. I am posting to a member about medications. Someone interups the post with a comment about a entirely different politically charged topic, posting it to me. My thread, one that I am engaged in, now becomes political in nature.

Sure I could turn the cheek for the 1000th time and ignore the comments, but then others chime in and before I know it MY non-political thread is now political. Again I could ignore it as best I can, but that prevents my original thread from getting its information across. Or I  could be a dick and get rude. Is that what we want here?

It would be nice to tell someone "Take your political BS to the political BS thread" when ambushed by someone.

It is a simple tool. It would save many fights here. I would take next to no work. And you wouldn't have to go there either. And it wouldn't start the dreaded "Domino Effect" unless DJ just got willy nilly. Doesn't seem he would to me.

Even with a place for just political threads, this will most likely still happen.

Do what others do in this case.  Post "Dont hijack this thread please and start a new one with the political topic."  then go back to the original topic for the thread you started.

Because this forum is "open" and very rarely strickly moderated, if there are things on here political or religious that you don't agree with or like, DON'T READ IT!

It has been brought up in the past, discussed, and inevitably stuff like that belongs in the general board area.  Politics and religious topics are for the strong at heart, if you dare open that can of worms, be our guest.  BUT, if you can't handle others' opinions, you shouldn't be having those discussions.

It's hard enough to keep up with everything else on here, one more thing just might make us cross over to "the bad side!"  LOL

Hope you all understand!   :D

Hi Steph!

I get that no one needs to read things that they don't like.

You must have missed where I pointed out that the idea IS NOT to protect people who chose to look at political threads - it IS for people who start non-political threads that others attack with political replies to that thread. Those people are NOT chosing to have "those discussions" as you put it. They are having those discussions thrust upon them by others who may or may not be instigating a fight.

It is hard not to read replies to your own thread, or, a non-political thread that others turn political. I suppose the ownis can be on everyone to police themselves, but I see a number of complaints about this every day, which is why I brought it up.

But it is all cool. I am just going to dust off my F-Bombs. I am cool with "whack em and stack em".

My intentions are good. I just miss some of the people who leave here because invaribaly they just get sick of not being able to have a non-inturpted conversation.

If yer thread gets hijacked, then either stay with your original post, go with it, or start another thread. It happens, but I think if you are talking on the CH specific boards, people who would benefit from the info you post can and do read past the hijack.

And besides, the political overflow will end soon, the elections are this week. Otherwise, just don't read it. It's yer choice. [smiley=bulb2.gif]

Superhawk I do understand what you are saying, but maybe because of this thread,  those that want to wax political can put up a "pol. thread in progress" disclaimer   or.......before someone interrupts a non pol. thread....they might think twice.   That could make everyone happy, eh?

I know your intentions are good, (otherwise I would have said something different...  ;)  )  And yes, thank you, I did miss your point of the hijack.  I have a trusty little button that is used so I can move "certain" replies to there own little spots...ie a new thread....SO if something like this comes up PLEASE let me know and I will move it if necessary.

Regarding individuals leaving because of petty crap like this (political differences and such), I have to say I'm real sorry to see that.  Not ONE person on this site shares the SAME views on EVERYTHING, thus individuality, (GOD BLESS AMERICA) however, as human beings (with some form of respect), I would hope we can still be friends (even if someone does like to eat in the nude, I mean, that's cool with me, but if it weren't, MORE POWER TO YA!!!!).

Again, if things get hijacked, let me know.

Oh, and Chuck, I'm not really a true blonde!   ;)

I understand what you're saying Hawk. It's gotten nuts here lately. I've been known to make my views known now and then.... :o 8-)........The thing is that some of the funniest and brightest stuff pops up here among the politics and rants, and most of us are addicted. It's fun. I've looked at political boards but unlike DJs little experiement, fun is hard to come by. Here a lot of good stuff....always interesting gets in the mix along with the nonsense. That's unique from my experience. Mel and Linda do a good job breaking up really tedious stuff too.

Shit, no one is as nice in person as we are here. We're sickening.  8-)

Super....

I've been since almost the beginning and at first ALL we had was a "general board". We talked about everything from CH to Drummer's Mr. Winkie and anything in between.

We had a few free for alls an a few people decided to go elsewhere (some were offered an invite to go there). But all in all - when the dust died down - we all kissed, made up and sang Kum ba ya. Frankly I have trouble today keeping up with all the "special" sites.

I love a political argument almost as much as Charlie and can't for the life of me understand why people get so upset about them. It's an argument for goodness sakes! Charlie and I are usually right - don't know why you other guys can't see that! :)

Seriously, I agree with others - if people don't want to get into the frey - don't read the thread (or ignore it). BUT they should keep it on the General Board - not on the others.

DJ (and now with the help of Steph) has done a super fantastic job of giving us Clusterville.

Hugs BD
