Title: Ph probe Post by cash5542 on Nov 3rd, 2008 at 7:53pm
Has anyone had one? Lisa had one almost 5 years ago and it was not good. It had to be reinserted 3 times before it stopped twisting in her stomach. She didn't have CH at that point. She has to have one tomorrow and I was wondering if it triggers any increase in CH? The tube is awful close to the trigminal nerve and it stays there 24 hours. Thanks for any input. Her appt. is 8am Tuesday morning.

Oh man Charlotte.. A PH probe near the trigeminal nerve????????????
That does not sound pleasant. May I ask what exactly THAT is and what it's for? |

From what I read here I wouldn't think Lisa has anything to worry about. A tube is inserted into the nose that then decends down the esophagus.
Other than drugs that may trigger something it doesn't look like it would affect the Trigemenal nerve to me. But then I'm not a Dr :-/ Tell her I said good luck... -Dennis- |

Linda, Dennis explained it right. It's a probe used to measure acid reflux. It goes up the nose and down the throat. It stays in place for 24 hrs with come kind of box attached that measures when and why reflux may be higher (exercise, certain foods, sleep) It's not pleasant, very awkward and uncomfortable. I was concerned because the nerves on the face are all so close. May be worrying for nothing (not me :D) but was just wondering if it was an issue. Thanks for your comforting works Dennis!

yes, Dennis thanks. I'd never heard of that before.
Looks like Lisa will be o.k. Charlotte. May want to take her out for ice cream afterwards though. ;) |

I've never had the ph probe but I have had several ng tubes in the past some that were in for 7+ days and it never triggered a hit. Hope all goes well tomorrow. Phil

The fun part of this is that they want you to eat bad stuff! The idea is to see how you react to certain foods and how much you can tolerate.
Phil, does the ng tube go in the nose? WHat is that for? Thanks for everyone's good wishes and prayers! Charlotte |

NG tube Naso Gastric tube not sure on the spelling but yes it goes in your nose and into the stomach, I had stomach ulcers witch ended up being a large tumor in my stomach. They removed part of my stomach thats why the 7+ days with it in no ch hits while it was in but two weeks later got hit bad but I think it was from coming off the pain meds. Good luck, Phil

Everything went well, no problems at all. The technician was great. She even got a mask and set the o2 up in case there was a problem. She said better to be prepared than have to scramble. I took Lisa out to Panera for muffins and tea afterwards. Too early for icecream, Linda. Lisa said between the election and the uncomfortableness of the probe, she won't be able to sleep tonight. Oh well, she will have lots of tv to watch! The probe comes out in the morning.
