You folks are way too kind. I love making images, but I assure you that it's pure luck.  Anyone can do as well, or better - just watch the light (you do already)  And, like all of us, I make some really lousy snapshots too!

All of my stuff is was produced to be printed large for billboards and magazines, so I hate how they look at 800 pixels on a monitor.

This is an example - this was a 24" wide print and at that scale you really see the details and the textures in the scene. Morro Rock is about 2 miles away.  Plus, typical computer monitors don't have the gamut to produce all of the subtle shades and tones that a good print does. (OK, I'll stop whining)

I like this one because of the sense of scale (tiny people) and drama of the fast moving fog bank.

OMG Mark......that is absolutely breathtaking.  Thank you.

Oh...and please excuse me for asking for a 'picture'.....you taught me better than that.  I should have asked for an 'image' ;)

Also....would be more than happy to see more images.....anytime. :)

Love ya,
Jackie

LOL  ;D

It's just a habit from when I was working with people in the industry. Something that you worked hard on was an "image". Magazine and Ad agency Art Directors pay for "Image Rights". Among the group I worked closely with, the terms worked like this:

Images = serious work - fair game for criticism and rejection

Pictures= images that didn't quite make the grade of Image

Snapshots = sometimes GREAT, but a “grab shot” with no time to set up. Technical blunders were excused

Happy Snaps = the fun kind of stuff of our family, kids, etc. Technical stuff had no bearing – NO criticism allowed!

There was never anything wrong with taking any of them. It was just kind of a way to sort through the stuff that you shot. I love seeing the family stuff people show here. Those pictures have more emotive value and effect than anything I could ever hope to produce! (Unless they are pic's of my own Grandkids  ;D )

According to those definitions yours are all 'images'

I take 'lucky clicks'...... :)....sometimes.

Help me out here....I'm old and forget. :P
You taught me 'lens flare' and one other......I forgot the other.

I'm with you on the family pictures posted here.  Great to see...especially the children.

Jacks 8-)

ALL of mine are lucky clicks. I just close my eyes and turn in a circle while holding down the shutter release. Makes me dizzy, but I get some cool shots about every 100,000th or so. ! (The trick is - don't exhibit the rest  ;)) Never forget that an infinite number of monkeys sitting in front of keyboards will eventually produce a great novel.

(It was "sensor blooming" but it's not important compared to understanding Depth of Field)

Maybe we should take this to PM or email. I hate being bumped to the top when there are so many serious threads going.
