Title: Want to share a story... Post by Jackie on Nov 12th, 2008 at 6:12pm
This young man I know went out for lunch. He was in line at a local sub shop. In front of him was an old lady......pitiful looking and a bit shabby. She held out her hand full of change and ask the gal behind the counter if there was enough money there for a meal. The young man stepped up to the counter and told her that there was plenty of money for a meal...."What would you like to eat, ma'me", he said. The old lady placed her order, got her food and put her coins on the counter. The young man picked up her change and handed it back to her...saying, ma'me don't forget your change. She smiled at him and said....God bless you young man.
.....the young man was my son, Troy. Jacks 8-) |

Jacks,
Although I, too, love that kinda story(apple doesn't fall far from the tree, does it?), I'd like to share one as well. My daughter, Dana, fresh out of school and working for the first time, encountered several people, on the streets, with signs begging for help. Dana decided it was a good time to go to the store, where she bought a selection of packaged snacks, healthy food and drink and some paper lunch bags. She spent the evening packing up 'sack lunches" for these people, and loaded several in her car. The next day while she was out, instead of averting here eyes when she saw these "poor people", she'd roll down her window and give them a lunch sack At one red light, she had the opportunity to hand several out, and then waited for the light to change..THEY WERE RIPPED OPEN AND THROWN BACK AT HER IN HER CAR! Dana came home disillusioned and untrusting-a horrible lesson to learn. Dana still gives generously. She got over this crushing blow, but we all learned a lesson that day, and we are careful about the people who are receiving our generosity.....I'm just not sure how to seperate the wheat from the chaff. I'm proud of Troy, and I think he did find someone worthy. Although I am a strong supporter of the 'pay it forward' mindset, I always HOPE it is someone who truly deserves it. I guess if you give from the heart it really doesn't matter, though, does it? Gold "heart' stars for Troy, and Godspeed to the poor woman who probably really needs some help.......and to the pond-scum who simply want to make a living, pay no taxes and take advantage of all of us........I wish you warts!! Sometimes they do something simple that lets you know killing them wasn't the right course of action even though it would have felt good at the time ;)

Way to go Troy!! How wonderful, it shows just what wonderful parents you are Mom and Dad :) Glad to be called one of your own, and yes, you both do a phenomenal job in raising us kids - even the ones you didn't have.
Stories like this renew my faith in the human spirit. There truly is goodness to find and there definitely are those deserving. Troy's kind heart and generosity were offered in a manner that allowed for dignity, that is a rare young man you have there :) All my love Cat (the daughter you didn't have ;) ) |

Okay. I am walking around her with my shoulders back, chest out and strutting like a peacock and Troy isn't even my son so I can only imagine how proud you and Blake are.
In this world of mean spirited, hate spewing, snarky people, gems like Troy shine through and bring back the magic. Thank you, Troy and thanks to you and Blake. You raised a wonderful man!!!! |

Jackie,
Thanks for sharing the story. It makes a parent feel good when their kid does what is right without having to be told to do it! :D give him a big hug for me and tell him thanks. Jesus said, "Inasmuch as you do it unto the least of these, you have done it unto me." I think that is a pretty good goal to strive for. Cathi, I empathize with you and your daughter about her experience with the freeloaders, but it brings back to memory the line from "The Rose", one of my favorite songs: "It's the one who won't be taken, who cannot seem to give, and the soul afraid of dying that never learns to live." I would a whole lot rather give and have it wasted than to withhold it and leave one in need, although I do try to find out for sure the need as much as I can before giving. Jerry |

LOL! Dennis, thanks for fixin it!
I agree, we can't stop doing for those in need, I simply wish those who were users had purple faces, so we could tell 'em apart! Dana, BTW, has taken her generosity to some very grassroots organizations. Seems she is determined never to get food thrown back at her........ Cathi |
