Title: I HATE engineers! Post by jimmers on Nov 13th, 2008 at 9:33am
And I also believe that they should be required to work out in the field doing hands on work for 2 years as part of their so called "College Education"!
I have been designing/building and installing cabling and fiber-optic networks for 22 years, and I have yet to meet and engineer that knows what he is doing. Especially the ones fresh out of school. I bail them out of their stupidity time after time, but they sure are quick to throw me under the bus if they think that they will look bad and its starting to piss me off. I guess its like they say "Everything is easy on paper" Right jonny? Jimmers |

My late hubby would have agreed with your post totally and he WAS an engineer (not the kind that drives the train Matt :) ). But the difference was He went to college back in the days when they actually taught "field" stuff - not just book learning.
He used to get those wet nosed "new college graduates" to "train" and it certainly kept up his blood pressure. They had NO idea how to wire around something and would want to shut down a plant because something wasn't just like on paper. He called the main office one day and told them if they didn't get a couple of those little boys back to the office TODAY they'd be sending their mother's letters of condolence tomorrow. Now don't get me wrong - he was stubborn as the devil (only ONE way to do anything - his way) and knew everything (I sold my encyclopedias right after we got married), but he could "southern engineer" about anything if the need arose. My sympathies go out to you -- I had over 40 years of dealing with one at home - they're just as bad off work! :) Hugs BD |
