Is this where she decided to go or is she still considering the others you've mentioned? Good luck with the scholarship! I know this year leaves you on pins and needles. Congratulations, it looks like her hard work and dedication is paying off.

Copngratulations to Papa and Ellen! I hope she gets the scholarships too! We were lucky with Sarah, paid very little out of pocket for undergrad and grad. Scholarships paid for undergrad and assistanceships paid for most of grad school.

Great school George, with a little-known history of a U.S.-Canada boundary dispute in 1846 when the Oregon Territory was being contested.
Extending the 49th parallel boundary all the way to the Pacific would involve cutting off a small southern portion of Vancouver Island from Canada. With Canada insisting and America not budging, the little upstart Vancouver Film School came to be noteworthy making a short film called "This is Vancouver" that was shown in Congress. The depiction opened amidst the chaos of ten-foot creatures rising from swamps and a brave Vancouver hockey team high-sticking their way into heated battle; gloves were off sinking into the muck. A laser-firing Zamboni was being lifted and dropped by a hovering saucer with a green glow. (brief cutaway to Molson commercial) Blood oozed through the mud and penalty boxes swelled. A swamp creature was scrambling up to the overlooking hills to get at citizens throwing hotdogs down. A last valiant cry was heard, "For God, country, and Lord Stanley" before the filmmaker was overtaken and eaten. U.S. Congressmen removed their bi-colored 3-D glasses and hmmmmmed at getting involved in this and told Canada they certainly can keep the whole of Vancouver Island, "We'll make a southern jog in the line so you can have it. Good luck." ;) She's a recognized talent. All the best to her too for the scholarship! |

I think she's pretty much decided to go there, although she's also applying to a few other places as well, including Ringling. She's applying for a number of other scholarships, so with luck, she ought to be able to get something towards school, even if she doesn't win the full-ride. Thanks for the little-known history of VFS, Kevin. LOL. I don't think we'll be able to pay in pelts anymore, though. Thanks, everyone, for all the good wishes and congratulations. I love this place. :) Best, George |

Thank you.
Ellen turned 18 today, and so it's begun to come home to me that a new path for her is about to open--and a new one for Liz and me as well. She's a good kid, with a good heart. Raising her has been the greatest privilege and honor ever granted to me. While I will be her father all my life--something is fundamentally changing. I've still to come to grips with that, fully. It's all good. It's what we've wanted for her since she was small--growing into adulthood and independence, discovering her passions, making her way in the world. But still....you know? :-/ All the best, George |

Welcome to Canada, Ellen! Congrats on your wonderful achievements so far - can't wait to see what else your Dad will share with us.
Too bad you aren't coming to my side of the country but I'm sure you'll love the West. Carol |

Hiya George,
You took the words right out of my mouth...I LOVE this place...and I especially appreciate the honor and priviledge of being included (on the receiving end) of the announcement of a delightfully talented dreamers quest. I have been awed by Ellen's talent for several years now...and I am really looking forward to hearing where it will take her. The writing has always been my favorite, but then there is so much more...geez, I get chills just thinking about it. Thanks for keeping us in the loop. Best, Jon |

Be proud. Be very proud!! You and your wife have done a wonderful job raising a beautiful and talented daughter. Ellen, we are all so proud of you!!!!! |

That, sir, is a given. :) I think you'll like her, Karl--she's a wickedly intrepid fishergirl, a great fishing buddy, and a damn fine angler. Albacore or halibut? We oughta get some of the Northwest contingent involved in this thing too... 8-) Best, George |
