Title: A "cure" Post by cash5542 on Nov 17th, 2008 at 10:09pm
I have been thinking all weekend about the word cure and how defensive some have become over it. It seems like there is a fine line between cure and remission. What's the difference if you aren't struggling through the conditon?? Alcoholism has no cure but many spend decades free of drinking. There are many conditions that can go into a symptom free remission.
On the other hand why not allow someone the hope of thinking there may be a cure for the pain they sufferer. I remember hoping Lisa's sinus surgery in Dec. 06 would stop her CH once and for all. Some people bashed my hopes immediately but others were optimisitic. In the end it wasn't a cure but it did help reduce the pain. Every day I pray for a "cure" for the suffering that I watch some people close to me endure. I work with a 10 year old student who walked in my door with a cane 2 years ago but at 10 years old is now in a wheel chair suffering with MS. One of my swim buddies is rapidly dying from ALS. Brew and I both are involved with 2 young boys suffering from Duchenne muscular dystrophy. My Aunt's family also suffers froma genetic nightmare, ataxia. It's similar to these other conditon's and slowly and terminally deteriorates the body. Where is the "cure" for these muscular diseases? Death is inevitable for all of these wonderful people. It's just so sad that we can't find a "cure" for all this suffering but let's try to hold on to hope that some day it just might be there for everyone . Charlotte |
