I've had this car for over 10 years and it is almost like selling one of my children.  I'm really sad right now but it has to be done.  We plan to move next year and taking it...along with Jim's car, a motorcycle and a U-haul would be too much of a hassle and expense.

Just thought I'd share that with those of you who know me and my love affair with that car.  lol

If you have to do it for the cash, that's one thing. But if you sell it now because of the hassle of moving it, you will kick yourself later.

Really sorry to hear of your decison - Caliente was your trademark........

:'( Damn! Would it help if I flew to California, had lunch with you and then drove that sweet ride to your new home? Do you really have to part with it?

Sorry to see you have to make that decision. I am a car lover that has been fortunate enough to collect and keep most of the vehicles i have fallen for over the years. I have made the tough decisions a couple of times years ago and it is hard to do...you never forget the great cars...but the good news is that there are always more in your future that offer rewarding and unique experiences.
Hope your move goes well.
Paul

The damn car is big enough Linda!!! Throw the bike in the back seat and tow the car behind the U-Haul!!!

Damn shame parting with a car you love.  I've had to do it myself in the past.

There is a song in this somewhere.

Did you ask her how she felt?  Did you explain the situation to her?

No.

Yeah...it's so.   :'(

It isn't so much that I need the money as what I stated earier as well as this:   This car is like the energizer bunny.  It is running super great.  BUT....it has 170,000 miles on the original engine..in fact except for the paint job and the Mags, everything on this car is original.  At some point something is gonna go and I will not be able to afford to fix or replace it.

Dennis...lol  as big as this car is...a motorcycle will NOT fit in the back seat.

Barry, your offer to drive this to Kentucky from Calif. is noted and so much appreciated.  I can't afford what you'd charge though.   I so thank you for  the offer however.  :-*

What a grand old car that is, Linda.  Also, such a part of you for so long.  Sure hate to see you part with it.  But.....you're off on a new adventure so maybe that will help some.

Much Love,
Jackie

Sorry you gotta get rid of this. Sucks but good luck kid.

Charlie  (by the way; can you imagine the kind of email Leno gets about cars?....yikes.)

Ohh.....I guess this means no more Sea-Cruise either, hmmm?
I cannot, and will not believe it, Linda! (did you get that pink nail polish I recommended for the scratches?)

It's a long trip to Kentucky, but I know how you feel.....such a bummer..........and, as I constantly remind my dear husband, we are NOT defined by the car we drive......you'll still be our Linda :-*

LONG LIVE CALIENTE V8!!!  (even if you're not behind the wheel)

I know how you loved that car and I hate to see you have to let her go. She probably wouldn't like the winters here and the humidity in the summers so she will be happy staying in California. ;)

:( hugs to you Luinda.  This bites.

Does this mean you'll have to change your email address now too?

Now there is something wrong with that, right there... No doubt about it. That is wrong on way too many levels.
I might not have the time to steal the hub caps.

So sorry for your pending loss Linda.

OUCH Linder...that's gotta hurt...

The only car I ever loved was my Father's (then mine) 1957 PV 444 Cape Cod Gray Volvo...so ugly, only a mother or a teenager could love it. Never worried it would get stolen because only I could start it. Sold in 1982 for $100 to the first caller (mechanical problems I had no idea how to fix-spot me 3 wheels and I couldn't even fix a tricycle). 100 calls later and I realized what I had done. Not a day goes by I don't think of it.

So, don't take the first offer...and sell it to someone who cares...

Best,

Jon

I just knew you were going to say something Jimi.  So here is my response...

I've never been to Kentucky!!!  Jess and I have it planned to go someday, and we were gonna stay with you and let you feed us and drive us around, but now that Linda's going to be in the same state, that just makes it more fun, LOL. ;D ;) :-*

(who loves ya??)

Thanks guys...all this talk of being around and near all of youse....is making me feel a little bit better about this.

I have no intention of selling this for too much less than the price..AND...I will want to know if it will be garaged, waxed frequently and taken  care of as I have...before I sell it.

BobG hasn't seen this yet and I really want to know his opinion.

Don';t mean to take up precious time here on a stupid car.  But car guys will understaand I hope.   :-[

Linda,  a car can sure tug on the heart strings, can't it.  Are you sure you don't want to keep her.  Is there a safe place for her while you have a minute to think about it?  She still has many miles in her as cars weren't disposable like they are now.  Heck with a 1967, I could work on it for you.  I know how to disassemble and reassemble the carb and everything:)  (it's not like you have to replace a 5000.00 computer board....)

Sorry for the decision you have to make.

Kimberly

Not only will car guys understand, but car girls will too.  You remember my webpages about my Isuzu Trooper sagas!

I'm so sorry Linda...if you truely decide this is something you need to do, I hope you find a new wonderful home for her.
I understand,
Mast

So, the first bite I get on Craigs list...turns out to be a scam. Someone from Japan needing me to wait 30 days til they can pass a check through a Swiss bank and wanting me to pay shipping and Insurance costs and 100 dollars for my trouble...of course.

I am so depressed.

I have since reported him.

Linda, it makes me really sad that you're selling the Merc. Have you looked into having the car shipped to Kentucky? Shipping cost should be only $500 - $700.

But, if you have to sell it I sure hope you get all you're asking for it. Even thou I've never seen the car in real life ,only by the photos, something in the back of my head says your price is fair but maybe you should ask for more and let the buyer talk you down to what you want.

And a question..........Kentucky? That's a long ways from home.

OMG! Bob! If Linda goes and sells the Caliente, how are we EVER gonna have that race? Member? The Caliente, Your Street Rod and our Vette.........I see it all slipping away now......and the rod is finished, too! :'(
Oh, well, gonna have to go looking for other trouble.........

Cathi(PS, Nice to see you!)
