Title: Gonna be easy this year....HA!
Post by Jackie on Nov 26th, 2008 at 8:17am
We are going to my brother's house for Thanksgiving this year.

So.....I won't have to get up at 3:00 am to start baking pies (I'm nuts and think they have to be made the day of) and then continue with the rest of the meal.

All I have to take is:
 Pies
 Cake
 Shrimp w/homemade cocktail sauce
 Meatballs
 Assorted cheese and meat tray
 Variety of crackers
Stuffing (made from scratch cornbread one like Mama makes)

Sure am glad I don't have to do much...... ::)

Jacks,
Aww, Jacks!! That's enough food :D to BE the meal.......and a lot of work!after 35 yrs, my deed is finally done, I believe. When GG died last month, my darling daughter came and took the turkey roaster home, eXplaining I ha done the duties for long enough!
Today, rather than polishing and baking and prepping, I am gonna be geting a mani and pedi and surfing the web....I am doing nothing....we are a skosh concerned, however.....since Dana is vegan.I warned her, after all the years that roaster has been around, it is soo steeped in turkey drippings, a tofurkey would meltdown in it!
Spose I get to take home leftovers???

Happy Gobbling Day, everyone!!

Cathi

What does one eat for Thanksgiving when they are Vegan? I thought about inviting one of my husband's good friends and was stuck. Lots of veggies and breads and sides??

Sounds good, Jackie.
I already baked my two pecan and two pumpmkin pies. No responsibility for the bird this year for me. That's good and bad.

For my pie crusts, I use the standard Better Homes and Garden recipes. The caveot is I use a marble pin and board that I chill outside overnight to roll out the dough.

Cornbread stuffing?  Would you share your recipie?

I'm very lucky.  Phil's mom does everything.  I always offer to make something or bring whatever and she always says no.  Maybe she thinks I'm a crappy cook, LMAO  ;D

As usual, we will be going to my sister-in-law's house this year (her kids live closer to her, so it's just easier, plus, the clean-up is left to somebody else).  My dressing is soaking and I will bake it today, so all we have to do is warm it up.  I baked the pecan pie yesterday.  Today, after I get off work, I will come home, make a lemon icebox pie, corn casserole, and the giblet gravy.  Jimbo is taking off at noon because he has 4 turkeys to fry.  We're thinking that there's going to be around 19 people this year, so damned glad it's at her house instead of mine.

Sure, Tom.....be happy to.

It's not an exact recipe so I'll PM it to you and we can discuss...might take some explanation being it's 'some' of this and 'a bit' of that... ;)

I get that but my ex, Renee, did not. She could never understand how I could look at a recipie, close the book, and cook/bake or never even open the cook book but just cook.
I have made some great dishes in my life but only ONE time...
I also have found that bread recipies must be exact. Deviate one bit and POOF. You got a brick in your oven/bread machine.

Looking forward to the recipie.

Glad you can sleep and don't get up so early. It sounds nice. It doesn't sound easy to me ;-) I know you will enjoy it . Give your Mom a hug for me.

Happy Thanks Giving Jackie !

So that's all you have to do huh?   [smiley=yikes.gif] Seems you have your work cut out for you, but there's nothing like mom's!

I wish I had a chance to make Thanksgiving dinner every few years - we stopped having it at mom's and my sister "Martha Stewart" is the automatic default.

Enjoy the "break" LOL!
