Title: Who knows about Gresham, Oregon?
Post by sandie99 on Nov 27th, 2008 at 3:49pm
Timo's cousin is headed to Gresham, Oregon and he thought it would be nice to let his cousin know few tips about the city before she goes there.

So can someone help in some way with this? What can you do while in Gresham? What one shoud know about Oregon? What are the places to visit, where to eat, what to avoid... etc.

Whatever you can tell, I will email Timo and he will send your advices/recommendations/experiences to his cousin.

Thank you so much in advance. :)

All the best,
Sanna

Sanna, Gresham is just east of Portland, a suburb. Oregon is a beautiful state, and we have some CH'ers that live near or in Portland. Cathi, BMonee, and Kayarr come to mind.

If we were living there, I'd be happy to meet Timo's cousin and take her on a tour. There is a zoo there and has a nice downtown. It's mainly suburbia. It's right on the way to Mt. Hood, which is the mountain you can see from the city. Nice place to visit, and get some good pictures.

I'm sure the local residents will be along to give you more information. Kirk knows it very well, but he's not in Oregon right now.

I'm sure she will have fun. Kirk may be along too, to offer some other tips.  :)

Well anything past E. 144th is either Gresham or Sandy. Where they split I have no idea. West of 144th is Portland.
Portland is too cosmopolitan by half. I could spend a few chapters on things to do there. It is much easier to answer the question, when you know what someone wants to do. Because no matter how depraved you are, its going on somewhere in Stumptown. You're between an 11,000+ foot mountain with glaciers and the Pacific Ocean, with the Colombia River on the North side of town.
Just pick what you want to do. You're within 1.5 hours of where it is to do it. Mountain climbing, Surfing, Pub Crawling, Opera, Japanese Tea Gardens, Zoo, Wind Surfing, Auto Racing, Motorcycle Racing, China Town. The list goes on.
Cathi-P lives in Oregon City and is all over the area, every day.

Sanna, there is so much in the area to do and eat.  It is a funky town with ie. voodoo dounuts.  The make a dounut man and have a prezel stabbed through him:)  We have skiing, my eldest daughter is still wakeboarding (in a dry suit) There are river cruises and coffee houses and all sorts of ethnic food.  Lots of theater, professional basketball.......I guess the question would be, what does she like to do?

Yes, Sanna, Gresham is very close to me.  I go there about once a week or so.
What is she coming here for?  What does she like to do?

And most importantly, is she single?
:)

One thing for sure, go up highway 26 just past the citty of Sandy and get some Joe's dounuts.  (back me here B.)  They are the best around.
Then, continue on to Mt. Hood:)

KImberly is right.  I was just out in Sandy on Monday and had some of Joe's donuts.  Then I came back through Gresham on the way back just for fun.

Thank you guys! :)

I'm going to email your replies to Timo and ask him more about his cousin's likes and dislikes.

She is single I believe, but also young - a high school student - and she will be spending quite some time right there in Gresham because of a student exchange as I just learned myself. She is also the daughter of Timo's aunt, who was also his godmother - the very same godaunt who passed away not that long time ago.

Sanna,
Ok, the rest all got here before I did.........how cool, Though! A Finnish Exchange student! Lucky family, lucky her!
I'm going to suggest she will not have much spare time. We had a succession of, I think, 14 japanese Exchange students over 5 yrs, and the programs they are involved in keep them busy morning till night,,,so she will be staying with a family in Gresham, and days will be spent exploring the cultures of Oregon.
Personally, I think Multnomah falls is a must =see and I love vsiting the very charming town of Hoold River, of course then there is the End of the Oregon Trail Interpretive Center, then again, I would not want to miss the Underground City, or the Ape Caves or the Japanese Gardens...or meeting some Clusterheads(or supporters)......when is she due here? I hope sometime when our weather is better!
Sanna, certainly, let us know........oh, and, pleasse, pack yourself in her suitcase!!!!

sanna, when i'm in that part of the country, the people there were very kind to me. they were just easy going laid back kind of people. from somebody who travels allot, my best advice would be to bring some rain and snow gear. theres lots of precipitation.

Johnny: Rain gear in Portland? Thats in the valley man. EVERYONE knows it rains over on the Coast. Portland only gets about 80 - 90 inches a year. It doesn't rain for as much as 60 days  during the Summer. Easiest way to spot someone from outside the GPNW, is they have an umbrella. They sell more sunglasses per capita in the GPNW then any other region of the country.
I've been around there off and on for most of my life, and I've never noticed it raining overly much.....in August

clackamas was the place i delivered to. it was about this time of year last year. i remember rolling up my tarps in a big puddle of water. it rained from there all the way down i5 into eugene. it rained on me and the old man that loaded those logs. it was raining at cascade locks when the lady at the scale pulled me around back. then the nest day i rememeber getting sloshed in the face by another passing truck when i was chainig up to go accross the cabbage patch. just passing through though. i never lived there.

Cathi,

I don't know the exact time when Timo's cousin is due to Oregon, but I'm guessing that it's quite soon, because she will be spending this Christmas in America.

I wish I could travel along and meet many new clusterheads right there, but that will have to wait. But once I'm coming to America again, I will let you guys know first! :)
