Supposed to be faster and stronger than imitrex.  Anyone know anything about it and if it will help with CH.

My doctor can get me samples if it is something I should try.

OK.... I found a thread on here by searching and I got the idea that this stuff is not a suitable abortive for CH.  If you have information to the contrary... please post here.  Otherwise I will assume it is not effective for me.

It's a combination being marketed for migraine. While it is Imitrex, being in a pill form it will be less useful for Cluster which needs the rapid onset of injection (although some find the pill helpful). The second med of the OTC naproxen--a pain med which has no application for CH.

OK, if its like imitrex and ibuprophen then it should help the same as trex by itself, right?

See, my doctor can get samples of this and free abortives are not something I would say no to.  

I'd find out if the amount of Imitrex is the same and also how high the dose of Ibuprofin is.  Too much Ibuprofin is very harmful to the liver.

Do not take more than 2 Treximet tablets in 24 hours.

Sumatriptan is a headache medicine. It is believed to work by narrowing the blood vessels around the brain. Sumatriptan also reduces substances in the body that can trigger headache pain, nausea, sensitivity to light and sound, and other migraine symptoms. Naproxen is in a group of drugs called nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Naproxen works by reducing hormones that cause inflammation and pain in the body.

Do not take Treximet if you have liver disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or a history of heart disease, angina (chest pain), blood circulation problems, heart attack, stroke, or heart bypass surgery.

Do not take Treximet if you have taken a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) such as isocarboxazid (Marplan), tranylcypromine (Parnate), selegiline (Eldepryl, Emsam), or phenelzine (Nardil) in the past 14 days. Before taking Treximet

Do not take Treximet within 24 hours after taking any of the following medicines:
almotriptan (Axert), eletriptan (Relpax), frovatriptan (Frova), naratriptan (Amerge), rizatriptan (Maxalt, Maxalt-MLT), sumatriptan (Imitrex), or zolmitriptan (Zomig); or

If you have certain conditions, you may need a dose adjustment or special tests to safely use this medication. Before taking Treximet, tell your doctor if you have:

epilepsy or other seizure disorder;

liver disease;

kidney disease; or

coronary artery disease (or risk factors that include diabetes, menopause, smoking, being overweight, having high blood pressure or high cholesterol, having a family history of coronary artery disease, being older than 40 and a man, or being a woman who has had a hysterectomy).

FDA pregnancy category C. Treximet may be harmful to an unborn baby. Tell your doctor if you are pregnant before you take this medication. Taking naproxen during the last 3 months of pregnancy may result in birth defects. Do not take Treximet during pregnancy without your doctor's advice. Treximet can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. Do not use this medication without telling your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.

The naproxen sodium content will not alow you to use it more than twice a day, My doc lets me do 3 vials SC Injection  in 24hrs* so if you need it more than twice in a day you will have to supliment with Imitrex alone.

*Add; I have never done this and the 1 time I did 2.5 in half vial shots I thought my heart was going to pop. I hardly touch it any more because of that and the rebound attacks. I get very poor pofomance for the risk but if you like it GSK likes you as an outstanding coustomer! 8-)

i found it moderatly helpful for shadows. my overall opinion is it is a gimmick drug.

Ta-Da!!!!!!!!!  by George he's got it. GSK's patent runs out shortly and they are scrambeling all over the place to keep those bucks coming in.  I think it's called re-formulating.  Lets add a non-useful ingredient and we can get more fools to keep buying our product instead of others who can produce it generically for less.   Or something like that.

My wife was given samples for migraines. The label says:
85mg Summatriptan (Trex)
500mg Naproxen

So a bit less than the 100mg Imitrex capsules, but with the Naproxen kicker.

Yea Linda, I got a letter from Cigna today. They won't cover Trex anymore. Generic only!!!!!

I have to say that the free sample worked like a charm for my wife. Killed her migraine while making her sprained knee feel a lot better.

I took some samples last week and they didnt act fast like the injection but they were faster then the reg imitrex pill, seemed to be about as fast as the nasel spray..  The one thing that I did like about it was that it seemed to last allot longer and didnt wear off as fast as the injection does, and allowed for a better sleep between attacks...

I decided to try it this cycle and it's worked wonderfully for me...seems to kick in very quickly.

I don't have that problem.  I honestly don't know any doctors that are drug pushers.  In fact is that the doctors I go to only accept samples for their patients who cant afford them.... and people like me.

I guess I could grab a few samples for an emergency.

I would, if imitrex works for you. With as expensive as it is? Just make sure you don't OD on the naproxen in it.

My doc didn't have samples, but did have a $25 voucher which made it only $10 for the nine pills. (I have Cigna, too). I don't know how many of those vouchers I would be able to use, but reading the literature  that was enclosed (does anyone do that any more), it says it isn't for those who have finished menepause. I think I'll just stick with the Imitrex shots.
