Title: Let the festivites begin!
Post by Cathi_Pierce on Nov 28th, 2008 at 2:30pm
Since I didn't host Thanksgiving, and yesterday was spent being social with my family, in a small crowd, noone let me pitch in with dish duty or anything, I think it's time to remove the Christmas stuff from the basement and begin to clutter the house with all the the red and green glitz I carefully packed away last Jan!

That said, I would like to officially open the CHristmas season!

We had one when I was a kid in the 60's and I'd kill for it now!!  My folks even had the revolving filter spotlights so the tree changed colors . . .

I'd LOVE one just for the kitsch factor.

(P.S. My entire house is decorated already!)

I remember electric blue, pink and gold trees as well....even metal green trees. So many of the new houses in town put them up in the 50s and early 60s.

They were neat.

Oh, Oh, Oh, Charlie,

Remember those really cool tree lights that had colored liquid in them that bubbled?

YEAH! The bubble lights. Great fun but being the klutz I am, I'd break one now and then. My Grandmother had some old series lights from back in the 20s or 30s or so. When one bulb blew, the whole string went. You'd have to try all the bulbs to fix it.

I just can't get into the Yule-tide spirit this year.

My brother saved my grandmother's silver tree with the three lights in the revolving base, quietly turning in a darkened room with many wrapped gifts under it.  Nicely remembered as kids, still puts it up every year.

COOL!!

We got rid of the spotlights when my dad sold his house 11 years ago.   The tree was gone long before that.

My tree is up and the decorations are going up as Caleb finds them. He found the reindeer that sings "Grandmaw got run over by a reindeer!" and has been pushing his button all weekend. (Thought I put it up high enough so's he couldn't reach it, but he got a stool!).

Then there's the Mickey Mouse snow scene that has a button and the Santa (I'm taking the batteries outta that one!). And the stockings are hung - Caleb checks them every morning....

We had a birthday party for him (he's officially 7) and cut the John Deere Cake (that was FUN to make).

I'm in the SPIRIT -- Let the holidays begin........Ho HO HO

Hugs BD
