Cuz it sells! New isn't news anymore silly, it's a big part of the entertainment industry. ;)

Bad news increases viewership and therefore increases advertising revenues. It's capitalism at it's worst... Ray |

It really kills me, some of the stuff they do for ratings. A few years ago when that woman cut the * out of someone and took it. Greta Van Sustran was running specials on it at the holidays. I wrote her the nastiest letter I ever crafted with my poison pen. I was so depressed at the time and just couldn’t take it anymore on all the news channels. It certainly didn’t rate well enough for a full hour minute by minute account of the details…
It’s all about sensationalism and when the viewers don’t complain, they just go farther yet. Sad.. :'( |

You have to love the 'thinkers' on this commission.
A new report warns that the world is at risk of a terror attack that would use weapons of mass destruction within the next five years. (ABC News Photo Illustration)The report, titled "The World at Risk," starkly states, "The commission believes that unless the world community acts decisively and with great urgency, it is more likely than not that a weapon of mass destruction will be used in a terrorist attack somewhere in the world by the end of 2013." So they say we are at risk in the next five years (we are at risk now), unless the world community acts decisively (okay, nice out.....maybe we are acting decisively, maybe we aren't), it is more likely than not( read 51% vs 49%) that a weapon of mass destruction will be used somewhere in the world by 2013. Nice prediction! Vague timeline, vague method, vague location, and the possibility that they could be stopped if only we acted. Beautiful. Who paid for this study? |

Sad to think...but I'll wager we the taxpayers did. |

I thought the same thing Mel and I realize that it keeps people buying crap from cable news. It's a ridiculous thing for us to worry about. It's the kind of thing that one can only hope that gets attention from our spooks. Other than that there isn't a damn thing you can do about it unless you devote your life to it.
To me, it's like all those tours of prison shows. An incredible waste of cable space. Charlie |

The bad part is they've got the "weapons" now if they really wanted to wipe out a city.... All they have to do is put the "wrong" chemical in the water supply. But you're right - it doesn't need to be a news item.
I still think we need to go back to 30 minutes of news in the evening and let it go at that and quit analyzing everything. People can start READING the newspapers again (most won't). The older I get the more I miss the good old days when the world was a lot bigger and we didn't know everything that was going on in China except that if we didn't clean our plate some kid over there was going to starve. :) Hugs BD |
