Just because there are moderators now doesn't mean that people have to stop being themselves.  If that were the case I would have never agreed to do it.  I feel like it's a slap in the face to those I've been a friend to, for them to leave here over it.

You are so right, Pubgirl and DJ knows it too.  He would never do that to Jonny.  He would never ask or expect Jonny to be anything other than who he is.

Jonny is my friend and I love him.  He helped me save Blake years ago.  We have never had a cross word.  Maybe that is because we're both scared of each other's mean streak :P

As I see it, the mod's have three functions here.  One: prevent any threads from getting so uncivil that they drive people away.

Two:  Prevent the first time attcks on new members to the board that are only looking for help or express differing viewpoints.

Three: Prevent the rampent egging on of some trolls that drop by from time to time.

I do not see the Mod's as thought police or mind control Nazzis.

I would have thought Jonny was tougher than this, but I guess I'm not all that surprised.

If I was King, and then a new government was installed and I didn't even have a position in it, well I'd have hurt feelings as well.

Since the Global Moderators don't really have all that much power (lock a thread, as far as I can tell), I don't see the harm in letting Jonny be a moderator except for one point... while Jonny has the biggest heart around here (no debate on that), he isn't exactly the most tactful or polite person around here.  Moderators are supposed to be examples of how to act.  I like Jonny, but I think I'd be out of here for sure if we had 50 people acting like him.  All of the people that have been designated as Global Moderators are people I see as great examples to emulate.  Even Jonny would have to agree, we don't want or need a crowd of Jonnys here.

Let me put it another way... if I was new on a community board about a medical condition, and I saw a 'Global Moderator' repeatedly bragging about the size of his schlong, or sending pictures around to prove it, I would have serious questions about the whole board.  So, I can see the reasoning behind not making him a moderator.  I am saddened that Jonny has taken it so personally, but we are all free to do whatever we feel like doing in this regard.

Paul, one qoution to you, and only to you! (and DJ or Steph.) not to the Mod's, how do the Mod’s do it, I don’t know so I ask, seems like you know, I honestly don’t know, can not find any reference on the boards of how are they to prevent.

If they “only” notify DJ / Steph, 2 that can not be at all times on the boards, and then Steph / DJ act upon It, then it is, in my way of thinking correct, and appropriate, it is Steph’s / DJ’s website.
But, and I am sorry DJ / Steph I disagree with you on the way, (if it is the way), that the Mod’s can delete a post or for that matter hide it, that is what I would precept as censorship, (exception, in my humble opinion is the use of bigotry, hate rage based on religion / race / colour, and use of sexual / pornographic abuse / material and the use of abusive lingual terms)
If a new poster is to join, and post a dictum that I find at best qutionable, or simply wrong (the way I see it) I will voice my opinion, the way I always did, and in the same way I did, I believe mostly with respect but crystal clear and at times sarcastic! and if one of my posts will be taken off (with out prior notice from Steph / DJ) by one of the Mod’s I will fell my self being censored based on disagreeing with my opinion, and not based on transparent guidelines known to all, this is my opinion, it is rather not important, it is Stephs / DJ website, and they make the rules, and I am to play by the rules, or look for a new “play ground”

What I stated above is what I understand to be the function of the mod's based upon what DJ posted.  I may be wrong.  I believe the only "power" they have is to lock a thread if it gets out of control and then alert Steph or DJ to act as Judge to the fate of the thread.

Some of the threads on this board have been WAY over the top and down right disgusting in their tone.  Hopefully we will not see them again.

There is an irony there and also an additional element to the moderator role I think. Hopefully DJ wants the moderators to try and ensure that ALL posters are treated fairly, not "blind eyed" if they are out of order because they are popular, or trashed simply because if who they are rather than what they say.

The only true "power" here should be DJ and the posters who purely attempt to help. Any other power struggles or manipulative gameplaying by unwell people that have been going on should be pointless. If the moderators play any of those games, then God help this board. It will be worse than before the moderators were appointed.

If they act fairly and reasonably, surely it has to be good?

Through the years, I've been through downsizing at some companies from 10,000 down to less than 1,000 employees.  (i know how off topic this sounds... stick with me).  I have learned that *nobody* is indispensible.  Nobody.  Sometimes, as the company was shrinking or the future didn't fit with their personal plan, they would leave.  To me, some of these folks seemed like the heart and soul of the company and I couldn't imagine the place could ever recover without them.  Of course, life went on as usual, just in a little different way and without the pleasure of having hat person around anymore.

Same kind thing here.  Seems like a huge loss (it is) but life goes on, CH.com will be fine, and some of us will miss Jonny and some won't.  Time to get on gettin' on.  His true friends will keep in contact with him whether CH.com exists or not.  I just hope this Jonny isn't so deep into his anger that he let's it affect his relationship with DJ and Steph.  A web site is a stupid thing to lose a friend over.

I understand what you're getting at Matt.  But I have faith that in time, those who left will come back again.

For what it's worth, and that isn't much in this economy,...

DJ and Steph have a young family to raise.  They aren't around 24/7/365.

DJ started this place for US...but it's still HIS PLACE.  We are guests here.  And so what if he put a few people in charge of the keys to lock the threads that get out of hand.

Some will like it some won't.  Some will leave, some will stay.  Some will come back.

The word is out there about CH as it has never been at any time in history, thanks to this site and to OUCH.

But it is still very misunderstood and we as sufferers need to be on our toes to help direct the misdiagnosed because Cluster Headache is the new catch-all-disease of the headache day when they are too lazy or uninformed to look at the symptoms properly.

I for one am glad to know that there will be people entrusted by DJ and Steph to squelch any attacks on a newcomer.  

Thats all I'm going to say on this matter, and I'm not going anywhere.  I've taken my breaks too.  And will again I'm sure if the mood strikes me.

In my less than humble opinion, Jonny's decisions about this board are his own to make. I would only ask that others not get emotionally involved and judgemental about situations that really don't concern them or affect their lives.

What is important, to me, is knowing what Jonny has given to others, and he is a generous man. "Let he who is without fault cast the first stone."

Finally, are you seriously telling us that the "Moderators" actually mod and if so, why? I'm dumbfounded that anyone remembered about mods or what....Global Moderators? What waste of energy if they do. ________

Jonny if you are reading this. Know that  you will always be remembered by our family. My grandson was told and is reminded that his name is Jonny Dalton. That he was named after me Johnnie but because you were here for us and we wanted him to carry you with him that we spelled his name the way you do. That the spelling makes the name special and that the man with that name is strong but has a heart of gold.
JD also knows we looked for a middle name  that started with D. That is DJ backwards. That reminds us of two wonderful guys that made a big difference in our life. There is a lot about you Jonny in his memory book. He has a O.U.C.H. card you gave him. He has post you posted to him. There is a picture of you in there. I just know he will thorw that picture in my face when he gets older and wants a tatoo. Thanks Jonny that will be hard to fight.

Shawn, you hit the nail directly on the head.  Both with this post and with your next one in this thread.

I, probably more than anyone, is sad to see Jonny go.  He's done more good things for people on this site... and the site itself... than most of you will EVER know.  He's protected and defended this place tooth and nail since day one and kept who knows how many trolls from even making it to the board.  He bluntly tells it exactly like it is, no matter who he's talking to and could publically call out a bullshitter after their first post.  All reasons I couldn't make him a moderator.  

I tried to explain to him that I didn't make him a moderator because I would never ask him to be someone he wasn't, but I'm not sure I did a very good job of explaining it.  For that, I am very sorry.

Now I understand (not that you owe us any explaination, but not to explain just wouldn't be you). Now everyone should understand.  Many of us really love Jonny and hope he will return.  Maybe if he should happen to read this, he will understand too.  Thanks DJ.

Steph,

You told me earlier in this thread that no one was holding me back... well I was holding me back and I'm damn glad I did.  I totally misread the situation.  I couldn't imagine Jonny leaving over the Moderator issue.  

If this is true then I have nothing else to say but that I wish Jonny the best and I hope he returns.

Hopefully people will see this thread and realize what DJ and Steph have built here.  A place where people can be themselves, disagree, and yet still help and be helped.  

they also need to know that the moderators dont delete posts, edit posts, or have any privs regarding poster accounts.  They really are only here to keep the peace so DJ and Steph dont need to be on 24/7.

Thank you all for your opinions.  Let's move forward and keep enjoying this site for it's strengths.

I think he left a descriptively adequate response why he left that fits his life and times here as an unbridled shaker and mover.  I'll remember that but not speak for him.

Sometimes it is best to simply sit back and observe. Case in point here. I have a better understanding of the moderator role and why certain individuals were chosen.

Do we need to have an "autopsy" every time someone leaves or wants to take a break ? Cant we just say " Take care, see you later " and leave a light on ?

I guess I would put it this way… If your teenager is leaving for collage you would feel anticipation and if they were heading to prison you would feel trepidation….Rolo…

There are many people who were here, and are still here, long before Jonny got here. However, like all of us feel, this is our home, not just one person's home. If someone feels like leaving, taking a break, or deleting themselves, then I hope the time off helps them. Jonny has done a lot to help people, but there are other people on this board who have also helped a lot of people without telling anyone.

If he decided to leave because he wasn't made a moderator, then I'm very sorry he feels that way. DJ was gracious enough to let us know why. There are many other members who were not made moderators, I believe DJ and Steph made good decisions regarding the mods, who really do represent this board.  Jonny is an adult, and can make his own decisions. He decided this was best for him. He'll return when he's ready. Let's leave it at that.
