Title: powdered herbs
Post by brian on Dec 4th, 2008 at 10:18pm
When ingesting an herbal powder, is it likely to enter the bloodstream more quickly on tongue washed down with liquid, or dissolved in warm/hot water as in tea?

I have this herb formula my acupuncturist gave me that works GREAT at aborting my CH.  So far, in tea, only 1 time ineffective out of a half dozen or more tries.  And it works in under 10 minutes!  But last week she told me to swallow it directly off my tongue, which I just tried, but it seems to have taken about twice as long to take effect.

Generally I found the herbal remedies I have taken for other health reasons are better as warm tea, but feverfew does ZILCH for my Ch and takes like crap so can't comment.

The branded remedy you have mentioned several times already probably won't help most people here I'm afraid- not just my opinion, years of people on here trying herbal remedies just proved that they had no effect on most of us and just cost money

Yeah I think feverfew is an anti-inflamatory so it probably wouldn't work for CH.  But that is already a diluted mix and is to be taken diluted further with warm water.  It is a different powdered mix that my acupuncturist gave me which I previously dissolved and had it work faster.  It did eventually work after swallowing (20 minutes so not too bad) but definitely faster dissolved.  Thanks for sharing your experience.

I am getting acupuncture tomorrow and I plan on getting a complete description of the name and ingredients of this remedy.  I am sure these are CH and this remedy works fantastic, so I have to share it!

Well, what would be the success rate if people randomly tried different OTC or prescription meds?  Or if they tried things based on symptoms (taking various headache medicines to try to treat CH, which is another type of headache)? Not so good.

Not many people have looked at it from a scientific/rational approach - for example, using herbs that block the serotonin 2 receptor (kudzu, clusterbusters), using herbs that inhibit CGRP (Sangre de Grado), using herbs that are rich in indole compounds (uncaria), are calcium channel blockers, etc. etc.  That method of experimenting has been fairly successful, although in the case of the busters, it was discovered by accident.
