Thanks folks!
Tanya - I was looking out for Jersey. There was a map at one of the lookout points pointing the direction of Jersey, France and Southern England. Couldn't quite see it, but maybe in the summer on a really clear day we will. And I'll be making the boat trip across one weekend if you'll have me!! Em x |

Looks like a beautiful place to live.
Is it true that you must be born there in order to own property and work there...that no outsiders can move to your wonderful paradise island? Paul |

If you're lucky enough to live by the sea - you're lucky enough.

Seems like you have settled in and are now able to enjoy your new surroundings...cool!
Loved the pics even though some of them made me a bit dizzy (I am scared of heights :D) Your puppies are so cute. Bet they love romping and taking in all of the new smells and sights. A doggy paradise for sure. |

That is so true. Nothing like living on the water. I miss it so... TomM...who is now land-locked in Northern VA. |

Hi Paul, There are limits to the number of outsidee people who can buy properties here. The housing market is split into 2 - an open market for anyone with enough money to buy a house and a local market for islanders. 2 same houses could be up for sale, on the local market it would cost about £250,000 and on the open market £1m. It's a way of making sure local people can afford to buy homes here. With our new jobs, we were lucky enough to get a local housing licence, which allows us to rent a house and live here like a local. It only lasts for 5 years though. Then we either reapply or we move on to somewhere else. Thanks all for the lovely comments! |
