Yes I just got something from my carrier as well, telling me about it. Too new to know, but I would imagine it has the same ingredients.

Sumatriptan=sumatriptan!

Just a thought about my suspicions on GSK. Anyone out there with a script for Imitrex? If you have the gumption to confirm this idea I have, call your doc and see if they immediately give you a script for Treximet… I just know GSK is perking doc’s to replace Imitrex with Treximet!!!

Im holding in my hands a carton of imetrex and the new the generic version. The ingredents are the exact same. Here we go.. 0.5mL of solution contaning 6mg of sumatriptan ( as the succinate salt) and 3.5mg of sodium chloride. They both have 1 year expire dates. Imitrex is made by glaxosmithkline made in England. The generic is manufactured by Punn Laboratories,UK (A glaxosmithkline company) For Par Pharmaceutial companies, Inc. Made in Singapore. Let me know.. Coach Bill

YES IT DOES WORK!

Hi guys. I'm new to the boards, my lovely wife found this site for me.

I've just recently gone through my most recent round of clusters and the generic Imitrex did the trick. I still have the mark on my stomach to prove it.

You're far braver then me! I have to close my eyes and shoot it in my bums! Even that I have to screw up my courage for half a minute or so! No way I could ever do my tummy. :o

I've used the generic in pill form and it seems to work. It might take longer to kick in, hard to say since I don't have a lot of experience with both. But it does definitely work (eventually....)

I found that they work adequately. No real difference in time of effect between Brand and Generic. Especially since they're being made by the same company. Well, an offshoot of GSK.

And I do the injections in my stomach because the shot is supposed to be adminsitered SQ (subcutaneously, in the fatty tissue of the skin), vs. IM (intramuscular).  I'm a rather small guy and a shot in my bum is hitting muscle.  ::)

And in all actuality, I'm a frickin baby when it comes to the shots. I almost hate the shots more than the headache.

IMHO, it's the sumatriptan that does the trick, not the brand name in the package.

But if you have money to spare to finance some silly TV spots, be sure to go for the original.

Just cowboy up and do it. LMAO! That's what my wife tells me all the time. I HATE needles of anysort. I get bruises because it's a mean and nasty auto injector. However, after reading the imitrex tip to the left I may use insulin needles to draw up 2mg doses.

Just as a side note. Being a paramedic, I start IV's, draw blood, etc on a regular basis. I can start IV's in the back of moving ambulance. No problems...until you come near me with a needle to start an IV or draw blood, and I pass out.  I'm a wimp.

At last! Can anyone tell me what the 100 mg pills are going for? My insurance only covers 9 pills every 23 days, and when I'm in cycle, this disappears pretty quickly. With a cheaper alternative, I should be able to stock up...

not sure about the pills but i will say this i noticed on my reciept that even though its generic it still cost over 750 bucks full price without insurance(my 8 shots that is)where as the name brand before was around 900 bucks...so its a little cheaper but im not sure its enough cheaper for the insurance companys to allow for more refills..but im just speculating,,
guess just the fact its generic took it from a 35$ copay to a 10$ copay for me,,so im happy

I checked with two different pharmacies this morning, and the figure I got was about $200 for 9 100mg pills. That's a discount from the non-generic of — hold your breath — $60!! You gotta love GSK.

The good news is that, as more competition emerges in the generic market, the price should drop further — in about 6-9 months.

I'm surprised that the cost is that high. I have an HSA so I have no prescription coverage and the Treximet is $175 - thankfully I've covered my deductible for the year, so at this time it's fully covered by insurance.

Don't wast your money on Treximet!! GSK is duping you!!!

Buy the generic sumatriptan and a bottle of Aleve.

Roland.

Slightly off topic, but I had an ER doc who also has CH tell me it works faster if you inject it high on your left arm.

The injection site really doesn't matter,  I was taking 6-8 injections a day and I would have to rotate injection sites,  legs,  tummy, and arms.   The only difference I noticed was injecting in my upper arm(deltiod) was a little faster relief.
