Title: favorite movies?
Post by tuck on Dec 17th, 2008 at 12:39pm
hi all!! The other night at work, a few of the fellas and myself were playing a version of "the newlywed game", and trying to guess what our wives 5 favorite movies were. Most of us did surprisingly well. One of my coworkes mentioned that you could tell alot about a person by what their favorite movies were. Melissa's post about the snack foods prompted me to post this, so,,,,, anybody care to list their top 5?  I have a REAL HARD time listing only five, but here goes,  "The Outlaw Josey Wales", ,,,,," The God FAther",,,,,"The Dirty Dozen",,,,,"Field of Dreams" (I cry every time i watch it) ,,,, and "A Christmas Carol" with Reginald Owen as Scrooge. Oh Hell,, the more I think about , I want to change them all,, no wait, just add two, no,, chahnge them all,, oh hell,,,  Tuck

Pfff, really hard to give exactly 5 movies, as there are a few more which I classify as my all time favourites.

Comedy:
Top Secret
Monty Python's Life of Brian
Monty Python and the Holy Grail
Meaning of life (also Monty Python)

Old school Euro thrash horror:
The beyond
House by the cemetery
City of the living dead

Other horror:
Hellraiser
Evil dead

Stange and creepy:
Jacob's Ladder (absolutely divine)
anything by David Lynch

Drama:
Turks Fruit (old seventies Paul Verhoeven when he still was  Dutch)
Elsker deg for evigt (breathtakingly beautiful love triangle from Denmark)

Furthermore I am a huge fan of:
Al Pacino
Robert deNiro
Jack Nicholson

Pascal.

BTW: if movies are revealing of one's character, does my penchant for horror categorize me as One Sick Puppy  ;D?

It is a good movie, and therein lies the problem.   ;)

After "The Movie" came out, flyfishing suddenly became fashionable.

Those of us who are lifelong fly anglers watched the price of decent equipment suddenly rise into the stratosphere as droves of new-minted enthusiasts began buying up the goods.  Rivers filled with the clueless, slogging through the best lies, whipping the water into froth.  Fights broke out.  No--really.

It was pretty bad out there for a while.  Eventually, of course, the craze subsided.  Those who were truly interested stayed with the sport.  The majority moved on to the next thing--golf, or something.

Nowadays, flyfishing has settled back into its old ways--a few eccentrics practicing their peculiar art--but you can always be assured of a lively discussion if you mention "The Movie" over a bottle shared by the campfire.

Best,

George

I can't list 5...

The company I am with right now is launching a service (top secret for now) that will have essentially ALL movies available ALL the time, on demand.  I'm not talking about the puny library of movies that NetFlix or the Apple Store has... I mean ALL the movies.  For free, btw.

Imagine being able to (from your TV, not your computer) pick and choose from over 400,000 titles from every major studio.  Or, being able to watch any NBA game ever televised, for example.

I am building the infrastructure to do this... it's bigger than anything I've ever built.  I built AT&T WorldNet, for example, so I know what 'big' is.

Unfortunately it's only for the US at this point, but world domination can't be too far off  :)

As we get closer and closer to launching this, I get more and more excited.  I can't wait until I can tell you all about it.  What I've told you is vastly oversimplified, but when we launch I'll give more details.  Our first units started rolling off the production line this week, and WOW it looks good.

The thing about hard times... people will always want to be entertained.

Did I miss something or has NOT one person listed a Bogart move????  Personally, I like "to have and have not".  That Bacall chick was something!  I hear she went on to make other films too huh?   How about switching genre's,,,, like, "The Ten Commandments",  or "The Greatest Story Ever Told".  I think people tend to list their favorites based on certain aspects of their lives at the time they saw the flick. And then associate that flick with that certain time of their life. For example, I thought that "Fast Times At Ridgemont High" was one of the funniest things i ever saw,,,, when i was 18.  I watched it not too long ago,, sober,, and thought to myself,,,, "uh, maybe it isnt as good as I thought".  You folks understand what I am saying, or am i just rambling? (I have a tendency to do that).  Tuck

How about a list of campy stuff or movies that we aren't supposed to like but do? (Not just MST3K stuff)

Colossus Of New York
Reefer Madness of course
Robot Monster
Plan 9 From Outer Space
Glenn Or Glenda (Chuck's Autobiography) 8-)

About half of my dvd collection is a heap of cheese, as I have a perversion  love for good old fashioned eurotrash from Lucio Fulci, Jesus Franco, and the likes.

Haven't seen the Score, Rodger, but will as soon as I can find the time. American History X was a movie that truely got under my skin.... what an ugly subculture that is.
Red Dragon rocked! I remember as a teenager going with my then-gf Susan going to the cinema for Silence of the lambs and being blown away... awesome stuff.

Pascal.

Ella Enchanted
Overboard
Monster, Inc
Triple X
Dejavu

Hard to pick just 5, so I picked 5 that I would drop everything to watch, lol.

Anybody know the titles of the 1950s and 1960s British music, teenage, or rock movies that ran on TMC some months ago? Lots of fun stuff and Carnaby St. etc. references.

Love that stuff as well as Beat stuff over here.

Went to see the new version of "The Day the Earth Stood Still" yesterday.  It sorta blew.

I'll still take the original.  Klaatu, barada nictu.  Trash, but good trash.

Best,

George

P.S.  Speaking of trash, has anyone ever seen "Killer Shrews"?  START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or RegisterEND PRINTPAGE

Could be the worst special effects of any movie ever made.  The giant killer shrews are dogs wearing shag rugs or something.

I love Killer Shrews. It's been a long long time since I saw it. You can add "Attack Of The Giant Leeches" to your list of terrible special effects. The leeches are essentially goofs in what look like Hefty Bags.  8-)

Tough choice... :P I watched many movies when I was younger, I loved some of them, but I don't think I would like them that much right now, when I am more mature.

But (in no particular order):
Lord of the Rings trilogy
Schindler's List
The Pianist
The Debt
Der Untergang/Saving Private Ryan/A Bridge Too Far

And if we are talking about TV series, Band of Brothers is definitely a masterpiece.

It was a typo, should be "IT". I don't know how did I make it, "n" isn't close to "t" on keyboard :p
