I got a wonderful reminder today in a PM that reminded me how satisfying it is to give rather than to receive.

We should be reminded to give to those who are less fortunate not just during the holidays but all year long.  Under our trees there are presents and our tables are filled with holiday feasts in our warm homes surrounded by friends and family.  Yet there are those who may be alone, have no presents, have no homes and have only what charity can spare to eat.

Every year we typically donate to our local food bank and we donate the kids gently used clothes and toys to the local battered woman's shelter.  For the last couple of years I would also pick two names from the angel tree at work and buy presents for children less fortunate than my own.  I want my children to know the true meaning of giving and to know that there are always people out there who are less fortunate no matter how bad things seem to be going.

This year we have not been able to do any of those things as I have been bedridden and/or housebound since the day after Thanksgiving.  Only in the last couple of days have I been able to sit upright for more than a five minute stretch of time. The only thing I have to offer those in need this year are my prayers.

Tonight I opened my PM box and received the following message.  Due to my inability to reply to a PM (I can read the message board from my phone but cannot post) it looks like two kids will get presents this year after all!!  Things truly have a way of working out for the best and the power of prayer is absolutely amazing!

Lizzie,  bless you for your generosity and giving spirit.  I am sure you made those children and their mom very happy.  

I would hope that everyone who is able will remember to donate to your local church/food bank, donate clothing to homeless or abuse shelters, or simply say a prayer for those in need.  Sometimes a prayer is all it takes!

DD, I hope you're recover quickly, but I know that your children are counting their blessings that mama is still around!  I know Steve is too, so all in all, this is the best gift girlfriend.  
I'm glad Steve is taking good care of you, but don't you go overdoing it now ... I know you're more restless than a... ______ fill in southern saying here_____
