This is the third mouse that has stopped working in what?  2 months?  Maybe 3?

I can't begin to figure out why the hell this keeps happening, but I'm tired spending money I cant really afford to buy and plug in a new mouse and then in a couple weeks the damn thing quits working.

HP Pavillion dv8000 windows XP with service pack 3.

Is there something I'm missing here?  Have I been screwed?  Just ran Avast last night after updating programs and signatures.

Now what?

D/L this, I got it from a puter expert site and it got rid of the nastiest bug I ever had on my puter (one that other programs missed).

Its free, cant say it will solve your problem, but if theres a bug (which thats what it sounds like) it will rip it the fuck out and kill it.

Not sure where to go from here...3 dead mice in 3 months.

Optical or analog ball type mouse? Did you try all the USB ports?

If it is an optical mouse, does the LED on the bottom still light up?

If not, I suspect the 5 volt accesory regulator is wide open and delivering a full 12 volts to the USB ports... Therfore burning the mice out. If this is the case then you are screwed because it's a laptop.

First try the suspect mice on another computer to verify if they are still good, or burnt out.

Roland. :)

Do you try plugging it into different USB ports?

Is it a wireless mouse?

Do you connect to the internet wirelessly when this happens?

The crazy thing, I took one of the old previously "dead" mice and plugged it in and it's working again.

They are/were all optical mice.  The first one to go was the wireless Microsoft.  Second one to die was the Logitech wired optical.  (the one that is now working again)  Third was a wired optical rocketfish mini mouse.

I do connect wirelessly.  Both computers do.  The laptop and the old desktop that the kids now use.

At least I have a mouse that is working.  Thats what matters no matter the hows or why's.

Thanks all for the input.
