Title: SNOW KILLS!
Post by Cathi_Pierce on Dec 25th, 2008 at 12:12am
So, for the last week or so, I've made light about this white stuff that has held us all captive in Oregon. I've enjoyed being in my jammies, not going anywhere, managed to make the best of being stranded, and dealing with my husband sleeping at my daughter's house so he does not have to take his normally 25 minute commute to work....because it is taking more like 2 1/2 hrs.........I've taken it all in stride.......
BUT
This afternoon, I got a call from a friend, letting us know one of our favorite people had a massive heart attack....OUT SHOVELING SNOW!

Harry was my age,55, in excellent condition, huge man, 6'3", quiet, well spoken and an all over gentleman who adored his wife, as she did him. I cannot believe Vicky has to face life alone.
When my boys both settled down for dinner, I thought about how very lucky I am. My son and husband are home safe, my grandson is safely at this mother's house, my daughter and her husband are safe at their home...........I am not trying to figure out how I am going to live life without them.

The Dr explained that the combined stress of unaccustomed low temperatures and the exertion of chucking snow can cause anyone to have a heart attack.......so, please use those snow thingamajiggies..........

Brian, Jeff...Mast...take heed!  Even those of you accustomed, be careful! It's great exercise, I know, but you have to listen to your heart.......

Now, everyone, finish this year off safely please.......as for me, I'm really looking forward to spring......

RIP, Harry.

Cathi :(

Aww Cathy :(
My condolences.
Just walking around my yard today to jump on the tractor was enough excercise for me!  And kneeling in the snow putting on my chains...I'm SOOOO over this crap.

Mast...over 18 inches in yard...blech

Cathi,so sorry to hear of your loss.

Shoveling snow is no way to go. It is far to common an occurance to those who live in areas where we endure the stuff.

I''m from Toronto.Last year was terrible for snow and it appears this year is starting off the same. Like you said BE Carefull. :( :(

I'm sorry for your loss Cathi. When it comes to exercise, I take Mark Twain's atitude towoards it. Whenever the urge to exercise comes over me. I just go lay down until it passes.

Man, that sucks. I suppose that it's a reminder to live life while you still have it.

My driveway and sidewalks were cleared the day it snowed.
I got out a lawn chair and a cup of coffee and and watched it melt.

So sorry, Cathi. A friend of mine and her husband celebrated their twentieth anniversary, a few years ago. I called her to congratulate her, and she said that for all of their issues and the bumpy road they'd had, that they'd reached a real place of friendship, deeper intimacy, and a really comfortable and solid love. She called me sobbing, two days later. Apparently, he'd been out shoveling snow, had a heart attack, and was stone-dead by the time he hit the ground.

So awful....  :'(
