It's not like it would be the first time they rounded up and detained Americans. Isn't that what happened to a lot of Japanese descended Americans back in WWII?

Linda, I found it on Google, but I put a space, not a dash between REX and the 84 ... Anyhow, for a quick synopsis, here is the wikipedia writeup on it:

That is a SCARY report!!

WOW!!!

It looks like they are trying to prevent the citizens from ever gaining control, if the government continues on its present path, of getting totally out of control and power hungry.

So when they say "don't tase me Bro"...........I blast em with my laser??? ;)

Don't lose sleep over stuff like this. A few will abuse it, and they'll be punished. Think of the people we won't have to shoot because we can disable them with this. If I have to choose between my AR-15, my 12 guage shotgun, my .40 cal side arm....and a laser that really hurts a lot.............it's just another "non lethal" option. Hard to argue with that.

Heres a question, Joe. Would you fire on Americans with that AR-15 if they revolted against the goverment?

Another question: Would you fire that AR-15 AT the goverment if they came to take your family?

Im just trying to get a feel here. I told my bud that emailed me about this (hes a clusterhead) "Do you really think that in a country of 300 million, with enough guns to arm half of them they would try this?"

He said "Google REX-84"

Thats all im doing and thats all im asking you folks to do.

The goverment should fear the people as the founding fathers set it up, its looking more and more like we should be fearing the goverment..........And getting ready for the showdown!

I used to worry about my goverment conspiring to take away my rights, turning this country into some kind of a police state.  Problem with that worry, they couldn't keep a blow job in the white house a secret. I just don't see sufficient intellect in this current crop of representatives to form ANY kind of conspiracy, keep it secret, and launch it on the people.

Conspiracy theorists will always be around, and to a degree, they serve a useful purpose in keeping the goverment open and honest. I don't lose a wink of sleep worrying about the goverment taking away my freedom. My hard earned income.......that they regularly come after...my rights....sorry, I just do not see a plausible threat there.

Jonny, I think you know my thoughts surrounding these types of concerns.

Congressional secret sessions, Executive Orders, Leaderships refusal to respond to Petitions for Redress of Grievances, Posse Comitatus being ignored...and many other signs that the US Government no longer thinks it has to follow the Law or the Constitution. And don't get me started with the Federal Reserve.

The arrogance of Government is scaring me. They are in bed with special interests groups, lobbyists and now the Media. We the People don't matter. They don't pay into Social Security and have their own special retirement plan and great medical coverage. They don't seem to wish to live by or under the rules they impose on us. And they seem to stay in office forever.

Again, I could go on but do any of these few concerns dissuade me from thinking something more sinister is possible? No...In fact the more I read, the more convinced I am that with these bastards anything is possible. Just look at the unaccountability of the crap going on with the Banking Industry and the other bailouts. What the Hell is going on up there?

They know what is going on and when it starts to crumble and the citizens start to understand who is responsible the Government will do what they feel is necessary to maintain and squash the first ones to set an example. They have divided us for now and they fear the day when we are no longer Democrats or Republicans, this or that and demand action as one People.

They took guns away from the citizens in New Orleans trying to protect themselves after the Storm. Nice start.

Heh.... I saw some woman on the news, walking down the street with a bullhorn and yelling, "This is what a police state looks like!!"

I snickered to myself and thought, No it isn't. They actually don't allow that sort of thing in police states.

Reading the first line of Chuck's Wiki link:

Quote:
Rex 84, short for Readiness Exercise 1984, is a plan by the United States federal government to test their ability to detain large numbers of American citizens in case of civil unrest or national emergency.

I don't know what plan in particular Rex-84 is, but having a plan is not outlandish in any way.  Here is a list of American history events and books written about them where civil unrest required intervention.

Reading some of these could form a better opinion, I've only come across some and read a chapter or two about them.  Being the Detroit riots are listed and so many were killed, those pages include a section "lessons learned", I wouldn't be opposed to enforcement having a plan that may possibly handle situations better.  A plan for national emergencies could be useful too.

The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.

Boston has historically been a very proud hot seat for America, well before Jefferson, too.

To get MA under more total control, in 1683 during Charles II reign, legal action was taken to have MA submit it's charter for revision allowing less autonomy.  They rejected the thought.
James II became king in 1685, charters were revoked and the New England colonies along with NY and NJ were combined into one single huge colony, the Dominion of New England, Governor-General became Edmund Andros.  He seated himself arrogantly in Boston.

With hearsay of James II being replaced by William of Orange, Boston gambled it all beginning the first American revolution.

A good book that highlights the event among others is "Seeds of Discontent".  Quotes include: "the bold men of Boston and the surrounding towns prepared to take up arms to expel the king's governor and other officials of the Dominion."

April 18, 1689.  "By nine in the morning, as eyewitness Nathaniel Byfield recorded, 'the Drums beat through the Town,' to call out the militia, using the signaling device atop Beacon Hill, the rebels alerted the townspeople and citizens' militias in the neighboring towns and that the revolution had begun and they should be prepared to join."
"...twenty companies of the militia took positions on King Street."

Town Hall was taken, the fort on Castle Island surrendered, Fort Hill, and the ships captain of HMS Rose [26 guns, crew of 200], which eventually lowered her sails and closed her gun ports.

I don't know a name for this uprising but it spread like wildfire through New England with NY throwing in with Bostonians and battle lines drawn in MD.

Never one to be accused of running from a question, I thought I had answered it but I will go into more detail! ;)

Would I use my AR-15 if a group of "citizens" rose up against our goverment? Yes. We have an excellent form of representative goverment here. Probably the best system in the world. (I won't start a separate debate on that with other countries, just a general opinion! :) ) The groups currently rising up against MY country are radical factions of various outlaw groups proclaiming to be "only preserving my fundamental rights" Which is their way of saying they're too damned lazy to avail themselves of our representative form of goverment, instead acting like any other terrorist and trying to enforce a minority view point on the majority.

Would I use my AR-15 against my goverment if they came after my family? Short answer, yes. Long answer...it's a really really far fetched question. Why would "the goverment" come after my family. People need to stop thinking of the goverment as this evil entity. Defense lawyers are the ones who started that. Always describing our cases against their clients as "the goverments" case. Like it's some multi headed horrible monster. They are the people YOU elect. With the various checks and balances in our system, no one man will ever take over the country.

Joe's humble opinion!

(there, never let it be said I ducked a question!!!)

Are you only thinking about your family or are Arab Americans allowed the same rights as you when they come after their family?

First of all, we live in a Republic, based upon democratic law, not a Democracy. The majority does not always win. Remember the 2000 election?
As far as one man taking over the country. Have you seen some of the executive orders Bush has signed into effect? Even states rights are being trampled.

The truth is that all men having power ought to be mistrusted.
James Madison

Have you read about my Governor? He was elected by the majority. Now the majority can't get rid of him. Whats to stop him from calling up the Illinois national guard to surround the state capital and retain office? Nothing. And I wouldn't put it past this idiot.
I now, at least temporarily, have a senator that we didn't elect, appointed by a governor that we don't want.
Had he made it through a few more years here, there was plenty of talk about him running for President.

I think its funny that I'm supposed to worry about Facebook getting my IP address and sending me an unsolicited (and unnecessary) email trying to sell me Viagra, but I'm not supposed to worry about the government (oh, I'm sorry, the "people") collecting files on me, reading my email, listening to my phone calls? I don't read my kids emails or listen in on their phone calls as they deserve privacy. I don't expect my government to do it either. I don't think its too much to ask.

For those that say you have nothing to hide, I'd ask this. What happens if you apply for a government job or contract that needs clearance. Homeland Security has a file on you that says you have cluster headaches. Your competition for the job doesn't and he/she gets the job and you have no idea you've been discriminated against.
Thats just one example.

JM2C,
Bobw

As a man is said to have a right to his property, he may be equally said to have a property in his rights. Where an excess of power prevails, property of no sort is duly respected. No man is safe in his opinions, his person, his faculties, or his possessions.

James Madison, National Gazette Essay, March 27, 1792
