I thank you all for the kind words!
Sometimes rusty old things still have some life in them - you can ask Jimi if you don't believe me ;) Marc |

What I found interesting is that that "narrow gage" wasn't being used...hence the rust.
|
Title: Re: 'nother picture Post by Jimi on Jan 9th, 2009 at 10:29pm
Great pic Marc. Not gonna comment on the rust part, but only because I don't want to deRAIL the thread. ;)

Go eat some Birthday cake or something Jimi and stop worrying about rust. Did Ruthie get you some WD-40, btw?

Beautiful!! Love the backdrop of the clouds, too. The rust against the grey... Really striking contrast!

Nice! I enjoy every pic you post Marc.
The narrow gage is seldom seen anymore except in the west and NW territories. I believe it was for mountain passes and edges of mountains that the narrow gage was easier to install. Anybody know if this is true? I hope you had eyes in the back of your head when you took the pic. ;) -P. |

I thought that this thread was long gone by now....wow, I'm really in awe (and appreciate) at so many unexpected supportive comments from everyone.
My wife asked the same question: "How did you know a train wasn't going to come up behind you?" Freight trains are are flat out loud! I've been following the river on my bicycle up and downstream from there - believe me, you can hear them coming from 2-3 miles away in this flat landed area. Between the tracks vibrating and those air horns - you DO know that they are on the way! Again, I thank each one of you sincerely for the kind words. Marc |

I wasn't just saying this when I asked. One of my students was telling me today that her Dad was teaching her to draw using a vanishing point. I told her that was one point perspective then I went over to my computer and got your picture up to show her. She was so excited and said that looked just like what her Dad is teaching her. Of course when she got all excited, several other kids jumped up to look and they all loved it asking how it works! Part of my job as an art teacher is to make children aware of their environment. Your picture served to make many little minds inquisitive and excited. Thank you... and I want that picture!!! Charlotte |

You know what else is really cool? The blue of the stones against the orange of the rust. Orange and blue are complimentary colors. I think that's another reason for the strikingly beautiful image. :)

Thanks Marc, you have the talent to capture for sure. This one is by far my fav, mind if I use as my desktop pic? 8-)
Too late, I already did it, but thought it would be polite to ask first. [smiley=grin2.gif] |
Title: Re: 'nother picture Post by MITYRARE on Jan 12th, 2009 at 10:58pm
Marc, I am enjoying your pics as well.
I have a question...please keep in mind that I am not a photographer and do not know the correct jargon to ask the following...is this picture one of the HDR pics whereby you take a digital pic and then recreate it one F stop above and another F stop below and them super impose the three of them to create the vivid reality?...or is this pic just "as taken"? Title: Re: 'nother picture Post by Charlie on Jan 12th, 2009 at 11:14pm
Neat picture and like Linda, I wonder about the narrow gauge. Good stuff.
Charlie |
Title: Re: 'nother picture Post by AlienSpaceGuy on Jan 13th, 2009 at 7:45am
The "narrow gauge" are in fact guard rails. If a car derails it is (hopefully) caught by these rails and doesn't swing out and damage the bridge structure.

Thanks for the explanation Marc. This HDR stuff really catches my eye these days and i cannot quite figure out what it is about them...the depth of detail and vibrancy of colour I guess...a new visual dimension.
Nice work! Paul |

My kid being a Thomas nut would love this. |

It would never even occur to me to even try to take a picture like that. I have no artistic presence at all. Thank you for sharing. It is really beautiful!
