Will be a day of historic significance for all of us.

Forget politics for a minute and reflect on the journey we have taken as a nation. We have all been a part of the journey in our own way and have helped to shape who we are as a people.

November or January?

He's talking about the big inaugaration..(sp?).....I voted for McCain....but the fact our nation elected an African American as President, and had a woman as the VP on the other ticket, speaks volumes about how far we've come.

Awwww.... thanks so much for remembering the 5th anniversary of my fire, though I seriously doubt the entire nation was shaped by it. Oh well, it's the thought that counts....  :P

Today is a significant day in history. We're swearing in our 44th President. The fact that he happens to be black makes it historical.

A guy on the news yesterday said something that actually made sense. He was talking about when he started to school. The schools were intergrated and he said he'd never known anything else so what was the big deal. His kids who are very young would see the first president they'd remember as a black man, so they'd never know any different and when they studied history, they'd yawn and say, "oh yeah, so what's the big deal?"

But for those of us (not many around here) that grew up back in the 40's, 50's and 60's, it is a big deal. We remember SEGREGATION and all that went with it. We REMEMBER MLK and the marches -most of us probably heard his, "I Have a Dream" speech the first time he gave it. We remember Central High in Little Rock when 5 "Negro" kids went to a white school and it took the National Guard to get them in the door. We remember George Wallace and his biggot attitude.

Some of us thought segregation was wrong and did a little sitting in and marching along with those "militant" negros who were getting so uppity. Some of us thought Malcom X was a lot of hot air.

But for those of us old enough to have lived through the lead up to this day.. we can see the historic significance in it and why a lot of older people in this country are feeling something that can't be explained.

I, for one will be putting on some make-up and sitting in front of my TV to watch our 44th President be sworn in and then I'll say a little prayer that this skinny little guy that he can live up to half the expectations people have for him.

Enjoyed the lady on the news last night who was overjoyed about the impending inaugeration of "this man who is going to change the Universe".
Pretty tall order!

Between the media and campaign hype, massive numbers of people have unrealistic visions of the future.

We already have a legislator again wanting to uncap Presidential term limits because of the great things that the President is going to do. (HR-5)

That and the majority leadership in Congress is what I fear the most.

I don't believe any human on this earth could live up to the expectations people have of our new President.

I agree with Bob and Bill -- people's expectations of Obama being the Mesiah are totally unrealistic and he won't be able to do everything for everyone, but if he does a little to help most of us - then that's good.

NO NO NO to lifting term limits on anyone. In fact if I had my way we'd put them on Congress next week (or about 250 years ago).

What I got out of his speech today was - If you want something get off your lazy butts and DO something except complain. This CHANGE is gonna take all of us. As of today we're all EQUAL - now grab an oar and start rowing. Government can't fix everything.

Guess I'm just hoping he WILL bring a change to DC and the rest of the country as well. I'm tried of all this fighting about who's got the biggest one and nothing ever getting done. The hell with blame - it's time to do something to clear it up - not figure out who's to blame.

I'm just ready for people to start looking at a half-FULL glass for a while... But I'm just a wimmens - what do I know...
