Title: The meaning behind screennames Post by QnHeartMM on Jan 22nd, 2009 at 9:45am
As soon as I got to LouConn Jimi wanted to know the meaning behind my screen name. I thought it would be fun to learn everyone elses. I'll start:
I was in a company class, supposed to be attending network training. The mistake they all made is letting us sit at PC's during the training. Besides my work PC, I also had my personal laptop hooked up. I was playing hearts on it, and one of the trainers saw me. He sent a network message over to me and asked how I was enjoying the training, Ms Queen of Hearts. I picked QnHeart as an AOL screen name way back when. Somewhere I added the MM when I began using the screen name for work. Not too exciting but that's the story. |

Mine's highly creative............I was born Catherine, it was abbreviated to Cathy, my 5th grade teacher dropped the Y and replaced it with an I.she claimes some such hooey about my individualism........hence, I am Cathi........although some around here like to call me Puddin.........but that's another story!
Mrs Pierce is my mother in law,,,,,,,,,, Just call me Cathi :D PS-I'd love to meetcha Christy! |
Title: Re: The meaning behind screennames Post by LeLimey on Jan 22nd, 2009 at 9:53am
I know I've told this before - but some of you don't know how I became LeLimey!
When I first started chatting online I used "Limey". I have a really good friend from the US and I was always "the bloody limey" and she was always "the godamn yank"! (terms of endearment.. honest!!) Anyway, I’d gone on a day trip to France to shop when my kids were really little, Barney was only about six months old so Brid was about one and a half.. It was cold and dark and we are sitting in the car at the ferry port and the bloody frogs..er.. the french(!) wouldn’t let us onto the boat. They wouldn’t let us sit with our engines running to keep the car warm either so you can imagine how rotten it was. This went on for a couple of hours and then it got "aromatic" in the car. Not one but two dirty botties! The car was full of shopping, I had two car seats and no where to change a kid without leaving a car door open which was not an option in that cold. I got out of my car and went storming up to the jobsworth.. er.. official at the front.. and everyone else started winding down their windows to listen! Basically I DEMANDED somewhere to change my kids and he saw this angry little woman and backed off! He said I could use his car so I went and got the kids and my changing bag and walked back to his car. Everyone else was clapping and shouting "way to go!" etc. Anyway.. HIS bloody engine was running and HIS bloody car was nice and warm.. and that was when the red mist came down. What happens next was his fault not mine okay?!! Well.. you know how it is when you are cold and your fingers don’t move so well? (work with me on this one okay?!) Well.. I must’ve dropped each of those shitty nappies (diapers) face down onto the floor of his car a couple of times.. butterfingers or what? I found it really hard to pick them up too and seemed to rub them around a bit.. because my hands were SOOOO cold obviously! It seems in my haste to get back to MY car I forgot to pick up those nappies too.. they must’ve got shoved under a seat or something as I was scrabbling around... I was VERY careful to make sure I turned the heating up to the highest setting and also turn the fans on full in case it cooled down as I got in and out of the car.. see?.. I can be thoughtful!! Everyone else noticed that I wasn’t carrying dirty nappies as I went back to my car too judging by the beeping and raised thumbs and I like to think I raised everyone’s morale even if I did sweet sod all for the entente cordiale between France and the UK!! Anyway, I told this story online and earned the moniker Le to add to my Limey and everyone started calling me Le Limey so I adopted it in honour of my patriotic duty in thwarting the mini Napoleons once more! So there you have it and I sincerely hope you never find that on google or that odious little frenchman might come after me!! |

Back when the board looked like a chat room (99-00?) my screen name was Mark. I got layed off and it took awhile before I got back on line. This site had changed to a new format and someone else had the "Mark" screen name. I decided that because I was Mark and was coming back I was an Echo of the previous.
Lame - but it worked. |

Title: Re: The meaning behind screennames Post by Racer1_NC on Jan 22nd, 2009 at 12:16pm
No funny story to tell here...
When joining my first message board years ago naturally I had to select a screen name. At the time I was heavily involved in auto racing and I live in NC so I blended the two and tried "RacerNC". Of course that screen name was taken so I just kept trying variations until I found one that wasn't spoken for.... "Racer1_NC". Being a creature of habit, I continued to use that name when I'd join other forums. I've thought about changing it.......but I'd prolly forget the new one. Looks like I'm stuck with it. :D B |

Nothing funny or awe inspiring here either. I spell my name Pegg (2 g's) and I color my hair red. I was working in southern IL at the time, and my co-workers nic-named me Red and it just sort of stuck. I just changed the spelling to match my name.

Title: Re: The meaning behind screennames Post by sandie99 on Jan 22nd, 2009 at 3:52pm
My first name is Sanna. My screenname, sandie99, comes from my nickname. My love for English language and oceans made my aunt call me "Sandy Beach" when I was about 10.
I kind of liked Sandy, but I liked Sandie even better, so that became my personal nickname. I added 99 in the end because I happen to like that number a lot. So there you have it. Very simple! :) Sanna ;) |
Title: Re: The meaning behind screennames Post by BarbaraD on Jan 22nd, 2009 at 3:53pm
Back when I came here we just used our real names (most of us were too old to be real creative - shut up Chuck). I've been Barbara Dale (but old arthritis has forced me to sign things Barbara D and we've even gone down to BD lately) all my life so that's about all I'm capable of remembering at this age...
But lately I've had to come on here to remember who I am cause everyone around here calls me "Granny". Do you think I've lost what idenity I once had? :) Hugs Whoever |

When I first showed up I was DaddysDevil because I was here because/for my dad and powers know that I'm no angel. [smiley=evil.gif] I left for a bit, which is a story left best alone, and when I came back I was feeling just as the name says, broken. It was a hard time in my life and I felt like I needed my cluster family more than ever right then. My favorite saying at the time was I'm already broken, I'm just waiting for the next step: to break down. Thankfully since then I've over come much of that dark past and am in a much brighter, less damaged place now. The scars are still fading but I just can't bring myself to change it. Besides, to many people know me as that now anyways.
Not so, Broken Anymore |

I can't even remember the first login I used way back when. It may have been Jen, or could've been an old screen name from chat.
When I came back in '04, I used JenniferD, but switched to PollyPocket (frankly so my boss wouldn't see my name splattered all over here during work hours!) PollyPocket is, well.........I'm 4' 10 1/2". Kinda fits me :) |
Title: Re: The meaning behind screennames Post by Callico on Jan 22nd, 2009 at 5:09pm
My last name is Callison, properly pronounced as if it were Collison. Most people mispronounce it as if it begins with Cal, so I used CalliCo Unlimited as a business name in another life (Callison Co) because of the name recognition with the cloth. I used Callico Kid for a long time as a screen name, but after turning 50 my wife and kids didn't think I was a Kid anymore, so I shortened it.

Mine's a holdover from my Air Force Daze.
I worked on Avionics, so the crew chiefs (aka (with love) nose pickin tire kickers, booger hookers etc.) would see us (aka pointy heads, grinners) in our trucks grinnin waiting for the planes to come in from the rain before we would work on the electronic systems. So we had pickers and grinners, BB stackers and muzzle fuckers. I guess I got off easy. And I was born in 62. |

Title: Re: The meaning behind screennames Post by FramCire on Jan 23rd, 2009 at 12:53am
mine has 3 different stories:
1. Fram = Framingham, where I was born Cire= Eric backwards (like nomar Garciaparra whose name Nomar = Ramon (his dad) backwards) 2. I was online and found the website of Eric Marf who was a musician who listed one of his influences as Hitler ( START PRINTPAGEMultimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!! You need to ![]() ![]() 3. As a Red Sox fan, I was a member of a MB ( 406club.net ) where we had a rally cry of "Summon the fire" (which we still use). I liked to say we should "cram the fire down their throats" and was going to change my SN to CramFire but decided it would be a little more unique to change initials and go with FramCire. So there you go. 3 stories, all have been told. snopes.com has yet to confirm which urban legend is true. |

Title: Re: The meaning behind screennames Post by Lizzie2 on Jan 23rd, 2009 at 12:08pm
Lizzie2
Started out in Elaine and Michelle (Mastiff)'s old headache support group chat room, which I actually found before I discovered ch.com. Back then, whenever I joined a group online, I always went by my middle name, which is Elizabeth. My dad has called me by some form of Lizzie since I was born, and I've actually preferred it to my given name, Carrie, for most of my life! In chat, when I first arrived, I used the screenname "Lizzie" and everyone kept thinking I was Lizzie AlienSpaceBabe. So that's when I added the 2 - to differentiate that I was the 2nd Lizzie! When I first joined ch.com, I used the SN chronic_chic because I was suffering from chronic headaches at the time and had used the name on other message boards. Unfortunately, I didn't realize it was a bit of a mistake since I didn't have chronic CH yet at that point, and I think it put people off! So then I decided to make things easier, I'd make Lizzie2 my screenname here as well as chat. At some point, I switched to "CarrieBethRN" (I think while in nursing school), but it didn't stick....much preferred Lizzie2....and here it stands to this day!! This is a very enjoyable thread!!! Hugz and PF wishes! Carrie/Lizzie2 :) |

Title: Re: The meaning behind screennames Post by ANNSIE on Jan 23rd, 2009 at 5:17pm When I first came here 2.5 years ago, I had a hobby designing and selling jewellery online. The shop was called BB ( short for Beautiful Bijoux ) and I used BB as my screen name on all of the sites I visited, including here. However, there was a gentleman here with a different screen name but he signed his name as BB and he was offended that I "took" his name. Why he didnt choose BB to start with if that was his signature I have no idea, and he has not been here for a very long time. Anyway I got tired of his complaining so I gave up the name BB. The second screen name was Lotus because I picked a lotus picture as my avatar. Then I changed it to Annette which is my first name. When I came back after my husband passed away, I picked Annsie. Ann is short for Annette and Sie is short for Siebler, my late husband's surname. Looks like I become less and less creative with time :P |

Arctic was given/accepted as my nick name a decade ago among friends here in Oregon. My fathers lineage is Commanche, My mothers lineage is Alaskan, and the Arctic tribal heritage always meant alot to me. But when I said I was Aleutian, they didn't know it from a disease. So to simplify I said Alaskan native~ arctic tribal.
Spirals grew because its my religious symbol I wear. Some folks had crosses, pentacles/grams, what have you, the spiral said it all to me. For a few years I hosted a pagan community in my town named spirals. The two together was unique enough to land me the screen name in a few places so I stick with it. |

This is a great thread - fun to read.
Unfortumately, mine is kinda boring - my name is Sandy, last name Cullen. Back in good old 1999, when I first found this site I logged on as just SandyC. I left after a few months, then logged back in a couple of years later only to find that "SandyC" was already taken by someone else (DUH! ME), but I couldn't remember my password. So, I logged in as new and was relegated to having to put that doggoned _ and a C >:( So much for memory! Sandy |

When I first got on this site I was glevenhagen, my name being Gena Levenhagen. People would shorten it so to save time I went by Gena for a long time. Then I listened to a podio book call the 7th son. My favorite charterers name was Kilroy 2.0 how was a computer nerd that wanted to expose all the conspiracies of the government. So I stole his name.

Here it goes....
I work with the elderly. A lot of my residents are there for rehab from surgeries or an illness. I love to sit and chat with my residents. I talk all the time and I'm in general a huge goof ball. One morning I went in to get one of my ladies out of bed and ready for the day. She was having none of it and said she was going to stay in bed all day with her head under the covers. I right away went into cheerleader mode. You'll feel so much better if you get up and shower, have some breakfast and all that kind of stuff. She looked right at me and said do you ever shut up Flipperlips. I was laughing so hard. Can you picture an 80 something year old saying that? It was hilarious. So that's how I came up with me screen name. I'll never forget that day or that resident. Of course she is all better now and has since gone home, but I'll never forget her. She was a firecracker and I hope I'm just like her when I get into my 80's. |

My name is Ann Marie... when my Mother brought me home my brother could not say my name and said Ree ree... so I became Ree ree... shortened to ree because I am also short.
No one really calls me Ann Marie... so most of the time I am Ree My ouch screen name is Reespirit which is my name on most other boards that I belong to because I am a F-Reespirit... I loved this thread because yes we always wonder why people have chosen the names they have... I love the flipperlips story and I believe it... also Does Dennis really have 10 kids at the ripe age of 45 God bless ya... ree |

Someone at LouCon asked the meaning behind my screenname. They said it took them awhile to figure out that the letters and numbers, if you look at them right, say "Blacksheep".
Well, I was the last of 3 children, and my parents had two boys, and since I was the LAST kid to come, they wanted a girl. I popped out with my willie, and my father hated me from day one (thus the reason I often use the quote "Pissing off the world one person at a time since 1970" time to time) and I was the black sheep of the family. I've been on this board for 10 years this April, and at times have had to take a break now and then from it. After going through a very rough period I thought to myself, "We call this a 'family' and it IS a family; albeit very dysfunctional. Not everyone gets along. Some people tend to seem clique-ish (that has been argued to death), and while I have some good friends on here, I know quite a few who don't like me for some reason or another. It doesn't piss in my cheerios one bit, since they've not spent a minute in my shoes, much less walked a mile in them. So, I figure if this is a family, I'm pretty much the Black Sheep of it. The screenname just fell into my proverbial lap. 8-) Now, my radio / stage name, Mack Danger; I did not come up with. I got the nickname "Mack" a long time ago cause it rhymes with Jack (Mack Daniels, if you please.) Some friends of mine were trying to come up with a rpg name for me, and after coming up with some doozies, they made a combo of my nickname, and how I'm 'as dangerous as a Mack truck headed for a gas station at 110 miles an hour' and my friend Ashley said "You're Mack Danger" and it stuck. The funny part is, some people here in the hood only know me as "Mack", and I prefer it that way too. ;) But to those who know me best, I will always be fREEK. |
