This specific chinese herbal blend I am taking is called Tian Ma Gou Teng San (not a brand).  It was given me by an acupuncturist and works 90% aborting within 10 minutes.

As I understand it, the formula is a collection of several different herb combos, and may be available also in slightly different combinations, which could potentially also have similar effects.

From my acupuncturist I also understand that the formula may only be available to licensed medical practitioners, although I have yet to research that myself.

She also said that it is safe to use for weeks at a time (2x daily) at least, so it may have value as a preventive.

This formula has been a godsend for me so I hope that a few people who have yet to develop effective regimens to deal with their CH, or who are interested in alternative or herbal options, may give it a try.

The 'gou teng' part of the formula is uncaria (cat's claw), which some people here have reported some success with - it has indole compounds with similarities to serotonin, ergotamine, and various anti-headache medicines.

The 'tien ma' is gastrodia, which contains some compounds (like HBA) that seem to be similar to olanzapine and kudzu - it blocks certain dopamine and serotonin receptors.  

Those two herbs are available OTC from various sources. Some companies that make formulations may try to limit sales to acupuncturists, but it is not legally controlled.
