Title: Southern California vacation ?
Post by cash5542 on Jan 29th, 2009 at 9:18pm
Can anyone tell me anything about vacationing in Carlsbad or some of the surrounding beach towns like LaJolla and Pismo Beach? What is Oceanside like? We are planning a trip in mid June. I love the beach, shopping, surfing (hubby does), shopping and quiet small beach towns.  I have a 24 hr hold on a place in Carlsbad so I need a quick response.  I'm a teacher so my days aren't too flexible.

Thanks for your help!!

Carlsbad is a nice beach community. They have beaches for swimming and surfing. The downtown beach village is nice. I used to live there.

AND... it's only about 45 minutes from Guiseppi and me so you BETTER tell us when you're coming so we can drive down for a meet and greet!

I would say Carlsbad is better than Oceanside.

Pismo is on the Central CA coast. It's absolutely stunningly beautiful up there but very far drive from us. I think BobP can speak more to the Pismo area.

How is the weather in June?

It's called "June Gloom" lots of fog mornings and evenings. Doesn't get hot at the beaches till mid July. But still beautiful weather. Christy's right, between Oceanside and Carlsbad, no contest. Carlsbad is spectacular, lots of shopping, dining, pretty beaches. Oceanside.....not so much.

I used to live in Oceanside.  Carlsbad is just so much nicer!

OK It looks like this is going to actually happen IF I understand you right. The days will be pretty, nights foggy, beach won't be hot but will it be warm? Like 80's?

June can be 80s at the beach ... can also be 70's. Hard to tell. But it wil be nice, and it's Carlsbad...really nice.  Do you have a place in mind? PM us the link.

Pismo is June gloom also.  Water is probably colder here also.  Lots of campers/tourists in the summer.
Pismo is a nice town though, long pier, good surf.  Wine country north or south.  Hearst Castle to the north and an awesome drive on Hwy 1 to the north.

Sounds like it's Carsbad but I thought I'd throw in the Pismo stuff anyway.

We finished the plans for Carlsbad. Thank you for everyones help. I really appreciated the facts and figures and surf info. And Potter, if you hadn't told me there were lots of people I never would have known! ;) Thanks for that pertinent info! We'll deal with the June Gloom. It will be good to get a way. We have June Bugs here. That's all of the High School senior trips. It's crazy, not a weather condition!

Yeah you're right! I missed that or maybe I made an assumption that Californians are people???

Well we ran into a big gliche. We had all reservations done and the time share CRAP didn't work because this company that my father owns said he has to be present. He was just giving us the place to get rid of an overabundance of points. That isn't the case with RCI or RI. He is trying to get rid of time share points. If you don't own one, never buy one! They are the worst thing that came out of the 80's or when ever the idea came around.

I'm back to square one >:(

Wow, that sounds kind of messed up. If he owns it, can't he make the rules?

I know, beat 'em at their own game. Swab the inside of his cheek, put it in a baggie, and stick it in your suitcase. Voila! Dad's present and accounted for.

It is messed up! He owns the points in the timeshare company. When you go to a timeshare presentation they encourage how nice it is that you can give your weeks away to other family members. When my kids were young my Dad gave us a week in the Bahamas, no problems. This company just has different conditions I guess.
