Title: Geeks please
Post by Charlie on Jan 31st, 2009 at 6:30pm
I have a file and a copy of this file called: "handy shit." The thing is that suddenly it's now in Greek and impossible to read or use for me. I really need some of this stuff. I probably have some of it on a backup disc but a lot of stuff is new.

What can I do about this....if anything? I have no idea what I did wrong.

Bear in mind that I speak little computerese. Is this some kind of formatting thing? I'm not really sure what that means either of course.

HELP!

Just discovered that everything I have in Word Perfect is like this. That's a ton of stuff and I don't know what to do.

Now when I hit back here, I lose CH and have to sign in every time. I can't remember how to fix this either.

Dumbth. What do I do about this? I can't remember. It goes to "new folder." I just haven't had this kind of trouble in a long time.

Thanks kids.

Charlie  -  If you are opening WordPerfect files with an ASCII editor, say Notepad or Wordpad, it will look like Greek, WordPerfect files are saved in a WordPerfect specific binary format.  You need to open your WordPerfect files with WordPerfect, if this doesn't work, well maybe your screwed...

Charlie, try this:  right click on the file. It will give you a drop down menu and one of them will say: "Open With..."  click on that. Then select WordPerfect and it will use the same type of program to open the files as you used to create the files.

When you look at the files you need, what is the name of the file, specifically, what is the extension  (filename.extension) ?

Thanks kids. Incredibly, I fixed the Word Perfect problem. It was opening in something else. That's fixed now.......

Now how do I fix the tool bar here so I can go back to the previous posts and pages without clicking off every time? I know it has to be something right in front of me. When I hit back it goes to a file called "New Folder." I can't be here much if I can't fix this.  Maybe you would like it that way.... 8-)

Charlie,

It will help to know which browser you are using. Click help - about to display this. If it says internet explorer 6 or 7 I can't help. But if you use Firefox, Safari, Opera, or Chrome I might be able to help.  If you are running IE the first step will probably be to install and try another browser.

No beer? Sort of narrow minded for a preacher. Even the Puritans drank beer. They were pretty down on spirits though. So you might want to keep the Brandy put up.
