Title: Puter help please!
Post by Callico on Feb 2nd, 2009 at 10:08pm
My computer has been doing really weird things lately.  For one thing, it will jump to the top of a page about the time I get to the bottom.  Another is the wallpaper will stay on for a couple of days and then just disappear leaving a blue screen with the icons rearranged. And thirdly, the tool bar that I have set upon the bottom will change over to the side and will show folders as if I had opened "My Computer".

Is it demon possessed?  How do I exorcise them?  Is it a sign of pending death?

I know so little about this thing I don't even know how to ask questions. :-[

I don't know much about computers, but it sounds like the poor thing is getting CH hits.  ;)

It could be in your mouse.  A defectrive mouse will cause crap like that.  The wireless ones are especially prone to doing wierd shit.

Just replaced the mouse last month.  It is optical, but not wireless.

Do you still have the old mouse?  If so, try putting it back in, and see if the problem disappears.

Or if you don't have that one, do you have another one you can try?

The old one died, and we gave it a Christian burial.  Don't have another.  I might have gotten a bad one.  Guess I'll get another tomorrow.

Are you getting rid of malware and spyware regularly?

When you right click the task bar, is the "lock taskbar" checked?

And have you changed the batteries in the mouse recently?

Edited to add: are you using a new screensaver?  The screensaver might be messing with your wallpaper.

It is not a wireless mouse, so there are no batteries ...

The first part, though, is a valid question.

Callico,

Have you had any luck in fixing the problem?

Just curious if my kompyutah dummy idea about the mouse, helped any.

Chuck

Sounds like your Active Desktop is being turned off for some reason. And your Tool Bar isn't locked. Have you run a system cleaner like CCleaner lately? to get rid of the crap in your system that might be screwing you up. Microsoft tends to collect shit after awhile.
